Undergraduate / The Fried Chicken Inspiration- UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION SUPPLEMENTAL ESSAY [3]
Although the job I held during high school at KFC was not intellectually challenging, my experiences as an employee helped me grow and develop tremendously. From the speedy service to the aroma of the fresh biscuits, I was involved in all aspects of the operation. Instead of being intimidated by twenty-five-hour work weeks, competitive dance practice, and honors course assignments, my accomplishment created a deeper craving for knowledge that only furthering my education will satiate. The things that have shaped me into the determined young woman who I am today include my family values, my involvement in the community, and NC State's very own **.
My decision to choose nutritional science is not an impetuous decision, rather it developed over time through my Italian heritage; the kitchen was always occupied by my family conversing about the day while my mother made brilliant from-scratch lasagna. After working at the aforementioned KFC and becoming acquainted with the regulars, it dawned on me that I had yet to eat at a fast food restaurant as many of my customers I served did on a nightly basis. The fact that these families made such poor dietary choices inspired me. A career as a Dietician would allow me to carry out this ambition to make a difference in the community and contribute to the end of the obesity epidemic America is suffering.
Aside from working for financial gain, I sincerely enjoy donating my free-time and my talents. My mother enrolled my sisters and I into dance classes when we were each three years old, which progressed into competition dance when I was eight. Through our Platinum trophies and invitations to National competitions, the most touching performance to me was for the Abernathy Nursing Home. In addition, I enjoy spending my Saturday mornings volunteering and organizing goods for East Lincoln Christian Ministries. When the creative mood strikes me, I put my four years of art classes and natural creativity towards painting canvasses that I donate to my church's craft sales which proceeds fund the Vacation Bible School I help instruct every June. I pride myself on contributing my endeavors to my community and I would love to relinquish the same effort to NC State University.
Because I have had a dream to attend NCSU since my thoughts of college manifested, I keep up with news bulletins and stumbled upon another inspiration. Innovative, successful, and healthful are words that can describe **, the University's in-house dietician. The technological advancements she has made to the dining programs, such as vegetarian and gluten-free choices, have further triggered my aspiration to become a Registered Dietician. Therefore, it would be an honor to study at an institution with personnel I can truly look up to. Red and white have always been my favorite colors and I believe I would wear them much more proudly standing in the stands of fellow Wolfpack. The campus is remarkable and the students carry irresistible school spirit that I am dying to join. While hanging a high school diploma on the wall may fulfill others' dreams, my hunger for knowledge and drive to succeed must be gratified by earning a degree. Consequently, NCSU has everything I dream of in a collegiate setting.
