Undergraduate / 'I took and passed the gifted test' - UF admissions [5]

This is the topic "please write a concise narrative in which you describe a meaningful event, experience or accomplishment in your life and how it will affect your college experience or your contribution to the UF campus community. You may want to reflect on your ideas about student responsibility, academic integrity, campus citizenship or a call to service."

I wanted to write something uniqe so I went with the achievement of being a 'gifted' student. This is my essay:

When I was in second grade I took the gifted test and passed. That is one of my greatest achievements. It is important to me not because it has a high value to others but because it got me to where I am today. Nobody really appreciates being labeled a gifted child. I was put in harder classes form an early age. I was born in Colombia and I was in the middle of first grade when I came to this country, but when I started school I was put in kindergarten. School was extremely easy until I joined gifted. I liked being mentally challenged. Thanks to my gifted label I was able to get into Archimedean. They saw my report card and accepted me and put me in an all gifted class. All our subjects were harder besides the already present difficulty of the school curriculum. I stayed there for six years, it wasn't easy but I got through it and I'm glad I did. I took two mathematic classes per year, along with the fact that one of my math courses was always in Greek. I also took Greek language each year and a philosophy class. This being additional to all the normal classes everyone took. After Archimedean I decided to go to another school where I would have the opportunity of graduating with my Associates degree and my high school diploma. I have worked really hard throughout my years as a student and that is what I plan on bringing to the University of Florida. My motivation is my mom who worked so hard to bring me to this country so I could get all the opportunities she thought I deserve like gifted. I will always have that motivation and I will always work hard to be the best I can be. Besides being in a hard curriculum I have always been involved in extracurricular activities and sports. I love being involved and having fun. My mom could never help me with any work because she didn't speak English and growing up it has always been just my mom and I. Because of this I always had to work hard on my own, this taught me responsibility. Being in gifted has given me the opportunity to be who I am today. I learned to work hard and be responsible because of it. This is what I am going to bring to the university, my hard work, motivation, and charisma.
