Undergraduate / Short Answer Question - Language, race and religion - Singapore [2]
Hi everyone! I would gladly appreciate your help in reading and checking through my work. Its rather of a mess but thanks for helping me.

Language, race and religion are divisive factors; however these differences can be overcome if everyone worked together.
Singapore is a multi racial country, rich in cultural diversity and Singaporeans not delineated according to skin color or ancestry. The majority are the Chinese, with the Malays and the Indians forming significant minorities. Reflecting this diversity, we have four official languages namely English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil. My journey in this cultural mess started at home, where both my parents were of a different race. My mother was of Indian descent while my father was a Sinhalese.
Going to school was a very unique experience for me. Schools were mixed with the many races and we were taught each other's background and religion. This is exemplified by Racial Harmony Day, a day to promote cohesion by showcasing the four nationally-sanctioned cultures. Schools held celebrations for each racial holiday and they are observed nationwide.
As a guy, national service is compulsory for all, regardless of race or religion. In national service, I've lived with different people of different races in the same bunk. My buddies and I count ourselves to be brothers from different mothers, brought together by having the same hairstyle and clothes to wear. Having gone through the thick and thin with each other, I have not only learned more about my buddies, but also on their culture and religion.
Being fortunate enough, I was able to visit many other countries namely Thailand, China, Malaysia and Indonesia. There, I was exposed to the different cultures of each country. In each and every place, it was a whole new experience and they were all rich in culture in their own unique and special way.
Words alone cannot reflect the overflowing and colorful cultural experience that I've had so far in my life. Pictures may paint a thousand words and words may give information, however sharing such experience brings everything to a whole new dimension. I hope to be able to bring this to you and encourage students to approach new encounters with a broader mind.
