Undergraduate / I was confused about my own knowledge ! [4]
Describe the world you come from - for example, your family, community or school - and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.
From time to time my mother would watch disease awareness television shows and she would always call me into her room to watch it with her. My mother and I would be amazed by the horrific outcomes of each disease. Bulging tumors, missing limbs, and even the clear white shine of a bald head. Every time I saw a picture of a poor, helpless man I would feel much pity for him. I also wanted to help him in any way I could. That is why it became my dream to help others with diseases like cancer or HIV and AIDS so that they could live a normal life.
Growing up I had a difficult understanding of my own knowledge. I would feel like I was the smartest person in my class yet at the same time I felt like I didn't know anything at all. My parents were always very supportive of me, but they were always busy with work, which didn't give them much time to look into my level of education. My siblings were not the best role models. Being the youngest of the four kids in my family I was always tormented by them for being spoiled by my parents. So when I entered high school, my view of everything changed. I was overwhelmed with the amount of knowledge I had learned in those few weeks compared to my previous years of education. New concepts made their way into my brain. Much of what I learned beforehand no longer made any sense. However, I was able to obtain some much needed help from my new friends and teachers. With much frustration and hard work, I pulled through and survived my freshman year of high school.
In my junior year of high school I signed up for an AP Biology class. I expected to learn more about diseases and how they worked. However, I learned a lot more. My mind was introduced to the wondrous aspects of natural sciences. I became more and more intrigued about the processes of life and science in general. That is why I wish to pursue some form of biological science in the near future.
I love to learn new things related to life or just science related topics in general. I feel inclined to know how everything works. That is why I ask a lot of questions. I like to take my time in interpreting each concept and I enjoy the moment where I have full understanding of it. My ambition for more knowledge is the key element in keeping me on the right track for success.
