Undergraduate / Youth conservatory program ; COMMON APP ACTIVITY [9]

Is this better??
Going into my junior year I wanted to expand my performing arts interests and decided to look for a program I could do over the summer. The options were numerous but; I decided to go with the Youth conservatory program at the Los Angeles Theater Center because it offered the best opportunity for learning. However on the first day, my perception of what it was going to be was completely different. Most of the students were not actors and the curriculum though thought to be intensive training involved classes that were minimal and basic at first. But through my time spent in the program, my understanding and growth as a performer was incredible. I learned to work with a variety of people and glimpsed the essence of performing at its best through different aspects of theater. Though initially displaced, I will never regret being a part of the program for it gave me knowledge and rewarding experiences that I will use throughout my life and will never forget.

Undergraduate / I became passionate for performing; NYU SUPP/ What are your own academic interests? [3]

In fifth grade, I tried out for my first musical without knowing what I was getting myself into. The musical was Anything Goes and though I was a mere sailor, I felt just as part of the show as a lead because of the unity and commitment from everyone on stage. Ever since then, I became passionate for performing and knew my heart was set on pursuing musical theater. Musical Theater is such a unique art form because it involves the three disciplines of dancing, singing, and acting together but, also has the incredible sense of community made when doing a show. When the audience sees this union, it allows them to enter into a new world and to experience the story of the production from everyone on stage. So from my experience, I see it that Musical theatre performers not only entertain, but influence, inspire and speak to a wide audience. My first step begins with a college that can provide me with the resources and knowledge to pursue a rewarding career in the theater field and I believe that NYU is that college for me. In the hub of everything Broadway and theater, New York City is a place of insight and opportunity for a young performer. And at the Tisch School of Drama, you are not only learning the skills needed to become a better performer but are set blocks away from where you dream those skills will take you; the Broadway Stage.
