Undergraduate / Lifelong journey with no end / FSU/ LEARNING [2]

This year's essay is described below and should be no longer than 500 words.

Florida State University is more than just a world-class academic institution preparing you for a future career. We are a caring community of well-rounded individuals who embrace leadership, learning, service, and global awareness. With this in mind, which of these characteristics appeals most to you, and why?

"The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as we continue to live," is a quote by Mortimer Adler an American philosopher, educator, and popular author that emphasizes my ideals of learning. I believe that learning is important to a person growth and development and can be acquired from not only a textbook but also from other individuals and that this process can takes place at all time

ESSAY (what I got so far)

I believe that learning is important to a person growth and development and can be acquired from not only a textbook but also from other individuals and that this process can takes place at all time

Learning is something that I always enjoyed doing because it is an opportunity for me to acquire valuable knowledge and it allows me to grow from where I am today to where I want to go. Growing up, I always wanted to come and live in the United States since I was originally born here but raised in a different French speaking country named Guadeloupe. After many discussions, my parents made the difficult decision to send me in the US to live with my sister. At that moment, I was very happy but I knew that in order for me to stay I would have to do the difficult task of learning a completely different language. At first, I did not know a single word of English but thanks to my two little nieces Alisha and Kelsea (my sister's kids) who always tried to help me and correct me whenever I would made a mistake in speaking or writing English I was able within three months to make myself understood by others. Who would guess that a ten and eight year old could teach a thirteen years old at the time how to speak a new language? Not me. By learning English, I was able to open new opportunities for myself and was able to live in the US.

Furthermore, I cannot deny the power of books because it they helped me a lot during my school career. I remember always going to my Algebra 2 Honors book whenever I needed help solving a problem on my homework because I did not have a teacher available at home. Doing it provided me with great examples that I could learn from in order for me to solve the problem. I always loved and had a passion for math and in the process of doing that; I would sometimes try to teach myself the next lesson putting myself ahead of my fellow algebra 2 classmates. Learning is something that I always welcomed and Florida State University is the place where I want to continue my thirst for it.

To conclude, we have to recognize that learning is a lifelong journey with no end, and this journey can open new door and opportunities as well for an individual. Mahatma Gandhi once said "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."
