Writing Feedback / GRE essay/Topic: job satisfication is an important element of individual wellbeing. [2]
As most people spend a major part of their adult life at work, job satisfication is an important element of individual wellbeing.
What factors contribute to job satisfication?
How realistic is the expectation of job satisfication for all workers?
Humans have emotions that make them to expect about things in life. Expectations sometimes hurt when things don't turn out in a way we expect. Having said that expectations should be realistic. Most people spend more than half of a day at work place and they have expectation tied to it. Salary, behavior of colleagues/boss, and the type of work have an effect on job satisfaction.
The most important factor that contributes to job satisfaction is good salary and the range of sufficient salary varies from person to person. Sometimes people expect a good salary even without any job experience and that is an unrealistic expectation. However, if you have been putting your all effort at workplace, which is only possible if you have expertise, that can only be developed after years of tedious and rigorous effort, and comprehensive knowledge about your work, then you deserve a good salary and expectation about it won't be unrealistic.
The attitude of your colleagues and more importantly of your boss plays a sheer role in your satisfaction about your job. Everyday you would enjoy your work if your boss will appreciate your work and your colleagues will encourage your ideas. When a person starts a job then the initial months are like probation period and behavior of colleagues and boss is different because they are getting to know about how capable you are. That behavior could be discouraging but a new employee should be ready for that. Expecting your boss to treat you like a senior supervisor would be an unrealistic expectation.
People get a job on basis of their capabilities. So dissatisfaction on a work place arises when workers start comparing them with people who have different ranks and professional careers. If you are working in a renowned company or working with a prestigious organization then it will enhance your self-esteem and you will cherish it. But if you are at a mediocre workplace with menial work then it's hard to be satisfied. Expectations would be unrealistic if you keep on thinking about a professional job without having required knowledge for it.
"Grasses are always greener on the other side" is not just a saying, it is happening more often now-a- days. Even after having what people deserve, they are not satisfied.
