Graduate / Statement of Intent for MSc Control Systems/University of Calgary [2]
My primary interest lies in Control techniques to encounter real world problems developed through various projects and my professional experience. This interest is reflected in my exceptional academic performance as I secured fifth position in the department.
During my undergrad days, I worked on various projects like Automated Gantry, Home management system using GSM technology and an online UPS. I did my internship in Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research where I prepared a comparative report on PID and Fuzzy Logic Control which played a key role in developing my interest in the Control techniques.
My final year project, "Innovation in ####" was in industrial collaboration of Weatherford. ### is a patent product of the company used for proper makeup and breakup of oil country tubular (casing/tubing). Extensive reverse engineering was done to understand the functional philosophy of the system. A new unit with major improvements; reduced response time, self diagnostics, user friendly HMI was designed and successfully tested despite of many failures during the project timeline.
I started my professional career with ### Refinery as a Management Trainee in Instrumentation and then moved to ### Pakistan at ### Gas Field as Control & Instrumentation Trainee. During this time I have gained valuable experience in Process Control systems involved in both upstream and downstream sectors. I have developed skills in Configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of the Distributed Control System and SCADA. Having seen the application of control systems in the field will surely help me in conducting my research work efficiently.
I believe I am sufficiently motivated and technically equipped for this program. The University of Calgary situated in Industrial hub of North America with its experienced faculty, infrastructure will help me in contributing to the control systems' application in oil and gas sector more effectively.
