Undergraduate / "Let's have bizarre celebrations," ; Common good, Bowdoin College supplement [2]

"Let's have bizarre celebrations," sings my friend while preparing compost. I recognize the first lines of Wraith Pinned to the Mist. "Let's pretend we don't exist..." she continues, as I keep harvesting green beans.
From picking up flowers under ninety seven degrees, to harvesting beans under heavy rain. From tilling the soil, to making compost and creating the best conditions for the plants to grow. From becoming best friends with worms and bees, to joking with farmers about the inconsistency of the weather.
Every time I planted seeds and watched growth throughout time, I felt I was creating a story, a documentary told off screen and integrated into every day's monotony.
I see farming as a book on a shelf, every plant is a character that has the purpose to feed and generate resources in its surroundings, to promote a state of wellness among consumers. Every plant is part of a story bigger than itself. Farmers are just creating the conditions to make the stars shine.
"Let's pretend we don't exist" repeats my friend one more time. In other words, let's remove our external selves, let's drop the faces we create. Let's create an eternal good. Common good can be achieved if we let our imagination go beyond simple and automatic tasks, if we start catching different glances of a world that appears to be trivial.
