================================================================= =======
My name is Shawn, I was born and raised amongst a middle class family, that gives priority to the education of its four children, in Kuching, the capital and the most populous city of Sarawak, Malaysia. My father is the one who always encourage us to never stop learning and keep on upgrading ourselves with knowledge. My mother always states that I was a curious and malicious child back then, which I think it is true. Even now, I cultivate an eagerly desire of knowledge and curiosity.
I spent four years at University XX (university ranked first in Malaysia), pursuing my degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and finally graduated with a 2nd upper class honours degree in July 2012. During these four years, in addition to my involvement with university academics, I also had myself engaged in extracurricular activities such as Robocon. It is a competition where the participants need to design and build a few manual and automatic robots to carry out a certain given task. Though I was not really in the team participating the competition, it was during that time I found my interest in programming, signal processing and communication. Then I went outside Malaysia, as an intern student to develop an embedded system for military smart batteries and charger for a Singapore private company, XXX.
After gaining my bachelor degree, I was given the opportunity to work with one of the world's leading Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) company, XXX. There I spent another year as an Context Test Development Engineer developing test program on Cisco products such as Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switch. Experience gained there is irreplaceable, however, I have always dreamt to have myself a PhD title and conduct a research in a well known institute...
Nowadays, South Korea is becoming extremely popular all over the world. I took a subject in Korean language when I was pursuing my bachelor degree. I found some Korean friend and it was during that time my curiosity towards Korea culture and technology being triggered. In no time, I found myself enjoying Kpop music and sometimes, even Korean drama. Even until now, after graduate, I still occasionally study Korean language at my free time, though I lack the opponent to speak with. I have always wanted to further my studies overseas, and this is when KGSP program come into the picture. I am certain that South Korea, as a socially advanced and technology developed country, is a perfect place for me to hone my skills and help shape me into an intellectually competent leader.
At last, I will conclude with my future plans. I have the ambition to conduct research, later, in the field of engineering. I'd like to contribute to welfare of humanity in an efficient way. A Bachelor Degree, then a Master Degree, then a PhD: this is how I envision my academic progress. Perhaps in the future I might have myself a place in a well know university or company conducting research and obtaining some degree of influence over actual challenges -that is, becoming a problem solver myself in the near future.
