Essays / I want to adapt (modify to better fit my topic) an analogy from a source for use in my essay [2]

Undergraduate essay.

I have developed an analogy that is based on an analogy in one of my primary sources. Here is the analogy from the source:

"Just as the boatman sits in his small boat, trusting his frail craft in a stormy sea that is boundless in every direction, rising and falling with the howling, mountainous waves, so in the midst of a world full of suffering and misery the individual man calmly sits, supported by and trusting in the principium individuationis [ ... ]13 (World as Will and Representation, I, p. 416)" (Nietzsche, The Birth of Tragedy, sec.1)

Now here is my adaption that better fit my topic comparting Apollonian-Dionysian influences in Goethe's Faust:

he encapsulates the prowess of an Apollonian hero on the stage: a frail mask is all that separates him from a large chorus amongst a the vast audience, boundless in every direction, rising and falling, howling with both praise and heckles, yet remaining supported by and trusting in his Apollonian mask, defining his principium individuationis (analogy adapted from Arthur Schopenhauer quote Nietzsche includes in his book Birth, sec.1).

First of all, do you think such an adaption, properly cited is acceptable? I was going to use the analogy Nietzsche provides in his book, but I feel it might introduce a bit of confusion, where as my adaption fits in nicely. If it is acceptable, how exactly should I cite such an adaption (MLA style)?
