Graduate / 'great opportunity for me to develop my career goal' - Motivation Letter For Master of Philosophy [2]
please I would like you to edit my motivation letter for application for masters in public administration.
I would be very grateful to hear feedbacks on grammatical expression and whether the essay is on point.
Tough Economic times call for increased efficiency and better organization in all types of institutions, especially in the public sector as well as the private sector. In order to do this, there is the need to understand the content of public policy as well as its impact upon society, hence, the meed to study the interactions between actors and structures; the organization of governance and its effects at various levels. In developing countries of which my own country, Ghana is no exception, funds are less and resources are very scares, therefore there is the need for professionals who are analytical and individuals who understand how to steer an organization through uncertain times, since the country is striving to address particular needs and issues, communicating the causes of problems to the public. To this end, I appreciate this opportunity to apply for Masters of Philosophy in Public Administration at the University of xxx as I believe the programme will help me lead, research and analyse policies, solve problems and improve efficiency in organizations, institutions and different levels of government.
I graduated from the University of Ghana in 2012, with a major in Political Science and a minor in Linguistics. Within academics, I challenged myself to succeed as much as I have been able, in efforts to better myself both as a student and an individual. I graduated with a First Class honour with a GPA of 3,67.Outside the classroom, I was interested in Politics which I put to practice in University. through extra curricular and political leadership. In my third year in University, I was elected the organizing secretary of my department and several of high positions in other students' organizations, including being elected captain of the hockey team in my Hall of residence. My work in the end proved extremely rewarding, earning high esteem from my department and peers.
During my previous studies I harboured the dream to study Public Administration with greater depth than my undergraduate study offered. My utmost interest was sparked in a Public Policy class when the question was asked "what has led to the inability of Ghana and many African countries to achieve development in the abundance of natural resources?'. The answer was very obvious; we have failed to understand that the manner in which people think and act is to a large extent is shaped by existing institutional arrangements and the organizational context in which they operate. This has led to the inability of policy makers to formulate policies that will address the need of society.
After I graduated, I worked with the Ministry of Local government for a year where I served as an Executive assistant in The Amansie West District Assembly. I assisted in gathering information on Problem affecting the people within the community and relayed it to the District Assembly for them to take action. While I was working there I realized that I am capable of communicating well and helping find solutions to problems. I also realized that there is a huge gap in the administration field due to shortage of professionals who possess the academic qualifications required to address and handle problems in society related to administration and organization. I therefore had the desire to work there. Accordingly, getting into such a Masters Degree program would definitely help my career and is needed for me to reach my goal.
I have come to the realization that, Master of Philosophy in Public offers students the opportunity to enhance their ability to conduct independent analyses of organisations, political and administrative structures and processes, and public policy and that has been my main motivation, especially in one of my conjectures that it is possible to develop when actors who are directly or indirectly involved in taking decisions are able to analyse, research and churn out proactive policies and programmes that will address problems and improve efficiency in organizations and institutions at various levels of government. I have the conviction that the MPA programme will translate most of my 'fantasies' in the subject into realities, and also broaden my scope of many interesting areas in the subject.
My main career goal is to become a Researcher and Policy analyst in a Public sector, Local government or Non-profit organization which operate with fewer funds and in a constricted environment in striving to attract financial support in order to carry out its intended projects. I believe that development in developing countries can be accelerated through efficient and effective management of scares resources. I hope to come up with a sensational thesis which will adapt to the world of Administration.
In my quest to further my education in Public Administration, after extensive research and consultation, University of xxx was among the few universities I shortlisted and chose to apply to your graduate school because of the way the Master of Philosophy in Public Administration has been structured (Its interdisciplinary approach, comprehensive training in methodology and diversity in the areas of specialization), the course content and the Department of Administration and Organizational Theories full recognition of the importance of seeking to broaden the basis of knowledge through research as it trains professionals who will be prepared for managerial and research positions in the public and private sector. Again, I am very much enthused about the fact that, the MPA programme is intended to provide students with academic background required for entry into a PhD programme in the field since getting a PhD in Public Administration is next on my priority list after the MPA.
Furthermore, I am motivated by the Norwegian Government's commitment to provide financial aid under the Quota scheme to students from developing countries who are pursuing Masters in the University of xxx as it will not only provide me with financial support but also with the necessary understanding and experience international dimension and prepare me toward my career goal.
I consider myself a leader and a hardworking fellow. I am very ambitious about the ideas I have and I am working very hard to realize them. With motivation, hard work, discipline, willingness and passion to learn. I have no doubt that if am offered a place at the University of xxxx to pursue Master of Philosophy in Public Administration, it will serve a great opportunity for me to develop my career goal.
Yours sincerely
