Graduate / Written literacy sample. Write about an experience you have had with teaching or as a student. [2]
My overall experience as a student from childhood to now has been once of perseverance. The first obstacle I faced as a student, was being diagnosed with a learning disability. When a person or a child is diagnosed with a learning disability it's more than just a diagnoses, it becomes a label for the student. In addition, to being used to define the student's capability. For instance, I remember certain moments during my high school years when i had impressed my teachers with my work. They were surprised that I had a learning disability, because my work did not show it.
After high school, I was relieved to be in college and away from the label that I had grown up with. While in college I proved that my learning disability did not define who I was as a student or what I was capable of. During my second year in college I created a bit of an obstacle for myself, I became a parent. As a result of becoming a first time parent, college did get a little more challenging, and it took me a little long to finish. However, I never gave up or lost sight on school and finishing.
Ultimately in the end I graduated, and granted there were times that I wanted to quit I never gave into that temptation. Because giving up would me that I was giving up on myself, and I had come such a long way. Finishing school was important not only for myself but for my daughter. To put it anther way my daughter needed to see that despite obstacles or difficulties a person may have during their academic career, it's important to never give up. Despite challenges a student may face, never giving up ons school or themselves is what truly matters.
