Scholarship / The Nuclear Reactor Safety major. Study plan for a scholarship [2]

Study plan

The increase demand for energy around the world and the concern for the environment lead to the appearance of various clean sources of energy such as wind energy, solar energy and nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is gradually becoming a vital source of energy in some countries, for example, Japan, Korea and others Asia countries. Korea is considered to be one of the top countries in not only Asia but also the world that is capable of producing and exporting nuclear reactors with high reliability. This results from the efficient education system that consists of most aspects of nuclear engineering. Besides, the diversity of academic courses in Nuclear Engineering offered by most universities is impressive. Particularly, the Nuclear Engineering Department in UNIST is developing with various well-trained, experienced professors and lecturers.

I apply for a Combined MS- PhD course in 2017 spring semester. The Nuclear Reactor Safety is the major that I want to pursue in Nuclear Engineering Department at UNIST. I have already taken some subjects about Nuclear Reactor Safety in my university, Dalat University, such as Probabilistic Safety Analysis, Nuclear Reactor Safety Principle. The Nuclear Engineering graduate course offered at UNIST is great. The course that interests me the most is "Special Topics in Nuclear Engineering I, II, III" because it enables me to take the cognizance of Probabilistic Safety Assessment and nuclear safety. Besides, one of the most important factors for an engineer is the experience, so working in laboratory will give me numerous valuable experiences so that I can apply to the real nuclear reactor. The graduation thesis I am doing is about the safety system within the WWER nuclear reactor, the upgrade version of Pressurizer Water Reactor. The thesis based on the simulator developed by IAEA. Through this software, I am able to observe and assess the function and characteristic of the active and passive safety systems during incidents and severe accidents of the nuclear reactor. The result from this thesis is an important step to continue others experiments about the safety system in nuclear reactor. Therefore, I hope to have an opportunity to have higher education, especially about the safety system in Nuclear Reactor Safety department in UNIST. I have already searched for the information of laboratory about safety system in which professor In Cheol Bang is the director. I am impressed by the professor's diversity of the research areas. In which, I am interested in the safety analysis of nuclear system, and development of innovative nuclear safety system. I always want to know more about the characteristics of nuclear safety system so that I am capable of designing and analyzing the safety system when I study at Dalat University. I also have a specific plan about my studying progress when I study at UNIST. And I believe that nuclear engineering department at UNIST is the wonderful place that I can accomplish my dream. Thanks to those courses and experience, I hope to be a good nuclear reactor safety analyzer and of course, to be a nuclear reactor analyzer to ensure the safety of the community and the environment around the reactor.
