Common Application
Please give me feedback as soon as possible. I am an international students, and English is not my first language :-/
Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences in the space below (1000 character maximum).
I hate being an idle. I always keep myself busy. I work part-time as a cashier for Orange Coast College cafeteria. The payment is not impressive, but my job allows me to communicate with different people and that is just amazing. As an engineer, I might never have a directly-connect-to-public job in future, so I am enjoying my job. My enormous interest in communicating and meeting new people led me to join Student Government.
I am secretary of College Life Committee, branch of Student Government. In addition to my responsibilities as the secretary, such as taking all the minutes at CLC meeting, writing thank you notes, tracking all members meeting attendance, and etc., all the members are responsible for planning, organizing, and hosting the events on campus. Joining Student Government helped to improve my leadership skills. So far I chaired Student Services Fair. This event brought all students together to learn about various services that OCC has to offer to its students. This event held on September 11, so I gave a short speech in memory of people who lost their lives or lost their beloved ones on this day. Overall the event ended up very well and many students attended the event and left great feedbacks about the event.
In addition to leadership skills, Student Government taught me how to work with a group of people and how to plan, organize, and oversee the events. I also learned how to be out there in society, how to defend my ideas, and how to speak in public.
Now I am ready to move on and continue all my extracurricular activities in my new school, transfer all my experiences gained in OCC Student Government and my high school Student Government to my new schoolmates, and learn from them.
