proper paragraph formatting for application essays

What is the best way to format essays? I have them single spaced, but should the beginning of each paragraph be indented or should each paragraph be flush left, but with a space between paragraphs? The UC application, for example, won't let you indent the first paragraph - every time you save, it goes back to the left.

And what about short paragraphs, say with "dialogue"?

Thanks in advance!

Good questions, it depends on the circumstances. If you are submitting via an online form, I think the above advice is correct. If you are submitting hard copy, 1 inch margins all the way around with a half inch indent with each paragraph, double-spaced, is good.

Oh, I notice you said the application won't let you indent... so... yes, I agree with the above advice, since you are submitting online. Good luck!!!!!!
