The act of networking and relationship building is a hidden treasure, one only the wise understand its true relevance. Building relationships is an important investment into the future. It takes time and effort and commitment and when one correctly can yield results for years to come. As John Corner Says "No significant learning can occur without a significant relationship.
My relationship building experience started when I was at a lowest Point in life,it was during my 2nd year in Medical School where I had a progressive decline in Concentration with my studies , lack of interest in once pleasurable activities and insomnia, this eventually lead me to have a sharp decline in my performance in class. I met a Psychiatrist, after the first few sessions I immediately knew I see a role model and someone I would want to build a relationship with and gain insight into his experience and knowledge
Because I was in the same field as he was we bonded more.
He helped me gain insight and we discuss how I should be advocate for mental health as many students are suffering in silence citing example from a recent suicide in the campus at that time
Through his encouragement I joined Mental health forum ABU Chapter where we conduct awareness and discuss topic partaking to mental health
In spite of his tight Schedule I still call and leave a message every once in a while to keep the relationship afresh, and I have referred patients to him whom I believe will benefit from his professional experience.
Knowledge is as vast like the ocean and one must always continue to learn to grow , a mind that stops learning is a dead mind. The best way to gain knowledge is by building relationships with individuals from various aspects of life. From my own experience, I have discovered that a solid and expansive network is invaluable as it provides insight into different trends in the professional world and I achieve that through a Volunteer Career Guidance at a Government secondary School Gwadangwaji where we I form a relationship with Lawyers, Pharmacist, Accounting etc
My strongest relationship was with the Lawyer through him I understand a lot about medico legal litigation.. We recently worked together in a case of Suspected rape to help the victim get the help she deserves
I firmly believe that these experiences will allow me to explore my ability to support Chevening goals and objectives. I could explore more communication with different characters and backgrounds with tremendous alumni. I believe I can contribute to volunteering events like becoming a partner in transformational leadership for future collaboration with local universities that was done and being a regular event by Chevening Alumni Association Indonesia (CAAI) programs.
