Hello! So my assignment: this is going to be a thesis for my in-class essay for my final in my lit class. It's on the book Brave New World by Aldous Huxley discussing soma as a symbol. This is for a freshman Honors Survey Lit course at a very prestigious high school. I will be graded thoroughly so please be critical of any errors or corrections that need to be considered. Thanks!
Aldous Huxley's Brave New World describes a utopian society that is centered around stability, human condition, and constant feelings of happiness and pleasure. Huxley explores the irrational tactics we use in life to escape our reality, which ultimately destroy the individual. Through the government's use of soma to control the population, Linda's excessive abuse of the drug, and John's attempt at complete removal of the drug, Huxley reveals how we allow the individual within us to be overcome by anything that will guarantee us pleasant feelings, therefore resulting in a "fake" happiness.
