Here is my thesis thus far, just wondering if it flows or makes sense, I must write on why Ellison chose the title he did and why it is significant.

Thanks for help or suggestions.

As Ralph Ellison's novel Invisible Man progresses the meaning of the title becomes more apparent. The nameless protagonist ventures through many obstacles, which all yield the same result; he cannot be seen for who he truly is. Ellison through _____, ________ and _______ validates his title by slowly, throughout the book, unfolding its true meaning, to portray his own ideology of how African Americans are viewed by all others.

ok thanks here is what i have so far.

The meaning of the title of Ralph Ellison's novel, Invisible Man, becomes more apparent as the book progresses. The nameless protagonist ventures through many obstacles, which all yield the same result; he cannot be seen for who he truly is. In the early stages of the novel the narrator cannot be seen because he so readily conforms to others, thus blending into society. However, Ellison through characterization, metaphor and _______ manifests how invisibility is generated by the clouded eyes of others upon him, portraying his own ideology about the perception of African Americans in culture.

The symbolic rebirth of the narrator creates a new meaning for his invisibility; he is illustrated as deeply upset, for his tabula rasa has been tarnished by his external appearance. "Who was Buckeye the rabbit? I was filled with turmoil. Why should he think of that? He pointed to the question, word by word. I laughed, deep, deep inside me, giddy with the delight of self-discovery and the desire to hide it." (241) Ellison characterizes the narrator as resentful due to the doctor's judgment of him, which is established by his race's folklore not his personality. The doctor's vision of the narrator is his first true confirmation he is intrinsically invisible to others. Ellison reveals the narrator's happiness in this discovery; the fact that he has come to this conclusion individually helps him to succeed from the control of others. The contrasting juxtaposition of turmoil and delight confirms the narrator's sudden realization of his new invisibility.

thanks

The meaning of the title of Ralph Ellison's novel Invisible Man becomes more apparent as the book progresses.

Interesting start. You need one more sentence at the end of that first paragraph to answer the question raised by the opening line! Add a sentence that tells precisely what that meaning is. This sentence, at the end of the first para, will be your thesis sentence.
