hi guys,
Although i do not have my essay written yet, i wanted to do a census on my topic. Basically, do you think a college admissions essay based on cheating in academics would be interesting enough to write about for the important issue topic?

Thank you all for your feedback.

Cheating is inevitable in school and it would have a great effect to the generation. It will lose the pride from accomplishing something. It is always better to feel proud of yourself knowing it comes from your hardship but for mediocre who opt to cheat is a shame. It is a one way of lying and a habitual form of laziness. They say 'no pain no gain' - this is quit true to say that when you don't study it means you did not give time to invest on knowledge and you wouldn't gain it. You may have passed and succeeded but at some point in time you will realize that your foundation is hollow. Therefore, when you cheat you lose the chance to learn.

Do you have an experience that you could share that links you to cheating in any way? (I.e. your friend was caught, you were caught-this is iffy to write about- or something like that?) if so, did this experience actually change how you looked at the world or something like that? If so, I would say go ahead. But if you no experience worth talking about, I do not know.

ya pretty much a couple of my friends were caught cheating in this huge scandal at school. I think I could draw on that experience and situation. So do you think it would be a good enough issue of importance for my college admissions essay? thanks so much.

The general rule for college essays is that any topic can be "good", as long as it is successfully executed. However, I'm weary about your topic. Did you know your friends were going to cheat before they did? make sure not to reflect badly upon yourself! Is there anything signifigant you can actually draw from this experience? If the answer is yes, then it can be used. otherwise, stray away from it.

I could say I learned hard work pays off and say the cheaters are cheating themselves, the teachers, their peers, and parents out of a right, moral education. I'm brainstorming right now and I think I will try to write the issue of importance essay on this. thanks guys for your feedback.

I think it's too sensitive topic for both students and teachers. I'd choose something else.

Help for Admissions essay for issue of importance - topic choice?

Hey guys, I was thinking of doing something about cheating and its consequences on teachers and students for the issue of importance. Do you guys think it is too sensitive of a topic? In my opinion, I think it is a valid topic and an interesting one that touches home to students and teachers alike. Thanks for feedback.

I honestly didnt think cheating i really a big deal (like me as a person, or my school never really had a big problem with it) But bringing light to a little known about topic would be good. I say go for it. Than put your essary on here so I can be informed =}

Cheating is pretty bland. How about the acceptance of a persons differences?

I need to know what your prompt is for me to help you brainstorm

o. well the prompt is "Choose an issue of importance to you-the issue could be personal, school related, local, political, or international in scope-and write an essay in which you explain the significance of that issue to yourself, your family, your community, or your generation". Really? I would think cheating is an interesting topic that doesn't get written although i could be wrong. thanks

I could imagine that it is a interesting topic, but you might want to consider narrowing it down. Are you going to discuss cheating in general? Or, are you going to discuss cheating in high school? Also, don't forget to add how it affects you. Do you cheat, or do other students cheat off you?

I was thinking about discussing cheating in the educational system specifically my high school and its effects on the individuals who do it. Yea alot of my friends cheat, I was gonna talk about them.

Cheating seems like a really good topic to talk about just as long as you don't openly admit to cheating cause that would look pretty bad haha, but yeah other than that it seems like a good topic that is very uncommon and you can expand on it pretty well too, well good luck and I'll see if I can help you revise and edit your essay once you've written it!

Trust me, school related topics the first thing you think of is cheating or bullying. Doing something significant to you might be better. Just avoid controversy topics like politics and abortion.

When it comes to cheating, think about the second part of the question. Why is cheating significant to you? The only thing I can think of for me is that people who cheat and get great SAT or ACT scores, get into colleges for cheating, while you work your butt off everyday getting the grade you deserved.

Well everyone knows the consequences of cheating, etc. Like others have said, it could be a bit bland. There are millions of issues of importance out there! I would suggest going for something with some more spunk!

Ask yourself: do you want to stand out in this essay? I don't think addressing the issue of cheating would make you stand out from others, its a bit boring, at least to me. Write something you're passionate about!! There is 100% at least one issue of importance that YOU are passionate about, and others will get that from your writing. That's the most important piece. With that said, if you are very passionate about giving light to this issue, then go for it, I just assume you thought of it for the essay and aren't really that enthralled by it.

Could be wrong though. Goodluck
