My English teacher assigned us to read Cold Mountain and to "write a multi-paragraph essay on any literary aspect of the novel that you choose, using your knowledge of writing structure, language use, and topic development. I would recommend that you examine one of the themes or motifs of the novel and how they are brought out, or consider analyzing one or more of the main characters and their roles in the story." I chose to write about the crow motif in the novel, but I'm not sure exactly how to structure my essay. All I have is my first paragraph (which I will copy paste below) and that could use some (a lot) editing! Can you please give me some direction for this essay? Thank you very much.
Cold Mountain Crow Motif Essay
The crow, an ancient bird with inky black feathers and small beady copper eyes, is known for its wisdom, knowledge, and cunning mind. Crows have been shrouded by mystic and superstition for centuries and often are the subject of many myths, tales, and legends from civilizations around the world. Crows are regarded with great deal of veneration, suspicion, and skepticism being the harbingers of death, doom and misery possessing psychic knowledge from the spiritual world. This profound bird has captured the creative minds of writers and is found as a major theme or motif present in their works, such as in Frazier's Cold Mountain.
