Hi, I am new to this forum and would like to use this for my new college life. It seems most people on here are really knowledgeable and I could use that when my prof is busy, like 25/8 of the time.

Alright so here is the prompt.

Analysis of a Cultural Text

Overview of the Assignment. you are writing a 6-8 page essay in which you will analyze a pop culture text with the help of an article found in They Say I Say. <-- a small hand book with short essays in it.

Specifics of the Assignment
Your goal is to learn to use a published article and argument to help you revisit, think through, and analyze cultural texts in order to learn something new and build an argument about an aspect of pop culture. How can applying someone else's theoretical framework to your chosen cultural text help you to better understand our current cultural constructions?

You may select from the following foci/framework:

-- I have chosen this as my framework, their were 2 other options but they can just be neglected, it is the most easily understandable one and should be easy to write about.

In the below paragraph it is explaining an essay about how the internet and media is actually good for people and not bad like many people say it is.

3. Use Johnson's "Everything Bad is Good For You" and consider his claims about contemporary media. Johnson has an unusually positive view of the intellectual potential of contemporary media and seems to really believe that it is making us smarter. Your task is to pick an example of a TV show, movie etc. and discuss how Johnson's claims apply to the example you have picked. In your analysis, discuss specific elements of the show that you believe support what Johnson says. (Give examples...) and ALSO talk about elements of the show that contradict what Johnson says. In summary, use evidence from the show you picked in order to back up your points. In what ways do the examples you have come up with compliment Johnson's claims AND in what ways do they contradict, refute or complicate them?

Ok, for the TV show I do not know what to pick? I watch tv when I am bored that's it. I never have certain shows to watch. the show can not be educational such as history channel science channel. My best bet is CSI it is educational and informative without trying to be...

Evaluation
In the following paper, you're expected to demonstrate the following in this:
¨ use secondary research to make "new knowledge"
¨ apply ideas from one text to a primary text of your choice
¨ incorporate the ideas of another person into your own writing using proper documentation--this means that you will have to use quotations from either Rushkoff, Peacocke or Johnson depending on the topic you choose.

Ok so I know this prompt is huge! When it was being discussed in class everyone kept looking around and all I heard is, So what is the prompt? What are we writing about. I finally understood it after re-reading it a few times.

So Basically I need to use the view point of the author I have chosen Johnson, to write a analysis of a tv show " I am chosing CSI" to prove that media can be informative and not brain rotting like previously thought, I have done some research and have found great evidence from the Bandura theory and other good evidence. I would like some key ideas maybe and some different perspectives so I can get a two headed outlook!

Thanks a bunch
much love.

Ok, for the TV show I do not know what to pick?

Well, wait a minute now, the point is to choose a show based on what he said... so what did he mean by "everything bad is good for you?" Can you explain to me what he meant?

Can you perhaps help me to understand what he meant by using a tv show as an example?

That is how you have to think about this assignment.

Hey, CSI seems like a good idea. The most important thing, though, is to deeply understand what Johnson's insights were. Your job here is all about explaining his ideas. You only ?USE CSI as a tool to help you explain Johnson's ideas.
