Media Evaluation Argument Essay/ Masculinity

I am currently writing a thesis driven evaluative essay that defines the stakes of a particular argumentative issue and supports a specific position using evidence from the essay and outside sources. It's 5-7 pages long, not including the required "Works Cited" page.

Masculinity is what I'm incorporating into my thesis. I am using the film Tombstone. I created a topic sentence using society's view of masculinity today. My three points are: men in Tombstone are the leaders of the home, men in Tombstone are leaders and the men in Tombstone have incredible work ethics. I have a 2-3 page topic paper that I wrote using examples from Tombstone. I'm now suppose to write a 3-4 page rough draft evaluation of my film. Explain the film's rhetorical strategies-using Aristotelian and/or Toulmin modes of analysis. What kind of argument does the film make about society? Does the film speak to the intended audiences? WHy, or how? Does the film succeed in making its arguement? Use specific examples from the film to support your main arguement-as I will be making a distinct claim about the film. Use quotes from outside sources to support your opinion. HELP! Where do I start???

Good afternoon.

I suggest beginning with an outline. List all of the topics you absolutely want to include and then one fact and/or a supporting detail or story about that topic. You can include as many topics, facts, supporting details, or stories as you need to make a strong essay. Once you have that done you can rough out a conclusion; wait until the very end to write your introduction though. After all, how can you introduce something that you haven't even written yet?

Make sure to include all of the proper formal citations according to your required citation style, and to include a works cited or bibliography page at the end.

I hope this helps get you started.

Good evening,

I'd like to thank you for your suggestions thus far. I took your advice and started an outline. Unfortunatly I chose the film and topic and I have to stick to it. After the outline should I begin finding documentation to support my arguments?

Thanks again,

That will work out just fine. Once you know specifically what you want to know about, that will make finding your outside sources much easier. Best of luck!
