Hello,
could you help me with this one? As i am non english-speaker, it is a quite difficult exercise and morevover, I am not used writing essays... thanks!
Graduated of a Master of Financial Engineering of university X, I am submitting to you my application. My classes were focused on market finance with courses in applied mathematics, arbitrage, hedging, and options strategies. During my Master, I had to provide a Thesis in order to be graduated which was related to Volatility Trading through Variance Swaps.I believe that the high technical skills in Finance that I have acquired while on this academic path have enabled me to get a deep understanding of financial market products and my experiences gave me a more practical knowledge of equity derivatives markets.
However, my current role as a Trader assistant made me aware about some things, as the necessity to obtain a well recognized master to evolve professionally. As a trader assistant, I am in charge of the daily help of traders. This job specification is what you decide to do with. You can be a simple "executants", booking deals, or, with an important personal work, you can evolve and gain traders' trust, which would like to transmit you their knowledge, to help you evolve on the floor. However, a good master can add certain legitimacy as a junior (it is really important for quantitative knowledge) and it is difficult to evolve without, moreover in a really difficult period for employment as we currently are in.
I have made a lot a research on the internet, and talking with traders, to understand what element should add a great value to my profile, and they encouraged me to graduate in a Finance Msc, especially yours, and also recommended me for theses masters. The X Msc in Finance seems to be the better choice for me: courses are fulfilling my expectations, and could allow me to validate the knowledge I acquired working on a trading floor. Moreover, it is really international-oriented, and benefits from an excellent reputation in City employers which guarantee a good insertion in financial markets, because also of an excellent alumni network.
I have done my graduate internship in X in an equity derivatives research team, which was offering trading ideas to the trading and sales teams. This experience has allowed me to learn about equity derivatives products, and trading strategies. My current experience as a trader assistant made me being more "practical" in trading mechanisms. Indeed, I have been for one year on a daily contact with traders, helping them to manage their needs (book management, trade booking, book sensibility analysis, "Greeks" analysis...).So, I think that my experiences, and the abilities I have learnt, are an excellent basis for a junior trader assistant role. As I have a 2 years' experience in equity derivatives, I am quite perfectly fit with that business.
In a more personal way, I think that I have important abilities that could be interesting for you.
I worked two years after my French baccalaureate, as I was only sixteen. This experience made me more independent, autonomous, and has formed my personality. When I decided to go to university, I was still working and it didn't prevent me to validate each year with honours.
I am proud about my experiences, and I think that it is an interesting experience for employers, because it can show my combative personality, my autonomy, and my willingness to succeed which are really appreciated skills in the work field.
To conclude, my long-term goal is to pursue a career as trader in equity derivatives. For this reason, I am seeking a quantitative finance program that will further my professional objectives and fulfill my educational requirements. I sincerely believe that, my two years working experience in equity derivatives markets, coupled with my education in finance and my strong desire for professional growth in my interested area, will enable me to successfully fulfill the MSc in Finance program.
