Hi,
i have written a draft of my sop.. please comment and help me to improvise my sop. i have to send it tomorrow.
I have been curious with a question that "What makes children behave the way they do?" ever since I started observing my cousins while I played with them. Further I got interested in psychology when I started to understand the people and relationship between them. I wondered what differences in their upbringing have molded them to be the people they are.
My undergraduate study focused on commerce and I achieved remarkable performance in this field. I was selected by Lehman brothers in campus recruitment where only 8 students were selected out of 150 in May 2007. I performed well and I got promotion within one year and 2 outstanding performer certificates. However, with the time I realized my real interest lay not in finance, but in psychology and kids. As a youngster, I always used to gain immense pleasure in spending time with kids and interacting with them. Hence; out of my keen interest, I worked in play school along with my job in Investment bank. I used to try to understand their thoughts and was always amazed and curious about the way they learn new things.
Gradually, I realized that working with children is a stream in which I really enjoy doing and can be viable career option. I came to the point where I felt that my professional activity in the field of finance did not meet my personal ambitions to do something that would make a difference to society in one way or the other. Looking at how happy the kids are to see how happy the parents are with my work I thought I was making a positive contribution to the society and if I pursue my career in this field, I can do more. Hence I wanted to change my career track and pursue a career in psychology with a focus on children. As a step towards it, I pursued post graduate diploma in guidance and counseling and Post graduate diploma in pre-primary teacher's training (PGDPTT) and I have been looking at various options for master degree courses in psychology or child development.
After completing my masters, I see myself working with children in India. Here I wish to apply all the knowledge that I have acquired in the course of my education in order to gain firsthand experience. My long-term ambition is to become a child psychologist and bring in awareness about importance of child development in India
I believe that it is awareness about importance of childhood development and education that will change the face of India in the 21st century and I want to be part of that change. The importance of child development is not yet fully recognized by India. Under such circumstances, an advanced program in childhood education becomes necessary in India.
I sincerely believe that a Master's in childhood and youth studies from your university will help me reach my goal. This is what gives me the motivation to apply to your esteemed university.
I have no doubt that University of______ is the appropriate one for me, since it provides a unique mix of educational advantages. I am impressed with the current ranking of university of ______ and glad to find that the university provides the course of my interest. As the alumnus of the university is friend of mine, I have heard here pleasant experience about the degree course and helpful nature of professors. I believe that the education I will receive here will not only teach me the skills but will also give me intellectual discipline to mane and effective difference in a child's life. In all, it is a comprehensive university that not only offers an education that will serve me well in my career but also prepare me for a lifetime of learning.
