Essays / Including a Chronology in a Term Paper, According to Chicago Style [4]

I'm working on a term paper for Abraham Lincoln and I would like to include a chronology. The paper does not require a table of contents, title headings, or anything of that nature, but is instead just a single 18-page block of text. I've seen references to chronologies in several Chicago Style handbooks, but I can't seem to find any rules on how to set one up and where to put it. Should I include it as an appendix? If so, would I then be required to have a table of contents?

Thank your for your help!

Essays / Including a Chronology in a Term Paper, According to Chicago Style [4]

Thanks for the links. Those are useful sites, but I don't think they really address my problem.

I tried searching through all of the Chicago Style books and references that I could find, and I did discover one at my local library that mentioned chronologies. It suggested that a chronology be included as back matter, or within an appendix. Defining the chronology as an appendix seems like the best solution to me, but that raises the question of whether or not I would be required to have a table of contents.

So in that case, let me refrain my question: According to Chicago Style, is it "legal" to include an appendix without a table of contents?

Writing Feedback / Lincoln Paper - Introductory Paragraph [11]

Here is my introductory paragraph for a paper I'm working on about Abraham Lincoln:

"Throughout the history of the United States of America, many great men have directed her towards success. The nation has been graced with many of the greatest minds in history, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Madison. While these founding fathers were challenged with the task of establishing a country, another man would be challenged to preserve it. Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president, ascended to office during a time of uproar, turmoil, and disorder. With the secession of many southern states, the duty to preserve the Union befell unto Lincoln. During Lincoln's presidency he would find himself engaged in a Civil War, fighting a battle over the emancipation of southern slaves. His leadership and skills as president, along with his congenial personality, have found him an everlasting home among some of America's greatest minds."

I would really appreciate your comments and suggestions! Thank you!

Writing Feedback / Lincoln Paper - Introductory Paragraph [11]

Wow, thanks you guys! I honestly didn't think that this was a very good intro, and I thought that there would be many more suggestions. Seeing far fewer than I expected, along with your positive comments, make me feel much more confident now about this intro, and about my writing as a whole!

Thanks again! I really appreciate it!
