The book Ishmael - An Idea on a thesis and introduction [8]
Some might know of the book Ishmael, which is what I'm currently working on.
I'm trying to write about how our society was built from a myth and so integrated into our society that we cant do anything about it but make things worse.
I kind of made a body paragraph outline but I just cant branch outwords to a thesis /intro+conclusion.
My bodys are:
Mans destiny to rule the world and the universe
Science versus Religion
The tricks that the Gods played on Man
The powerful knowledge we have obtained from the Gods.
I just cant see a unifying idea to create a thesis. Maybe anyone can help out? Tons of thanks in advance.
Jonathan.

The book Ishmael - An Idea on a thesis and introduction [8]
Came across a problem on paragraph format. I know for a fact that each topic mentioned in an introduction will be a paragraph itself. Wish I could upload my outline to make it easier but... I'll try explaining.
The teacher also wants us to incorporate how "mood" builds up or gets completely shattered because we completely expect it or how Ishmael goes off topic and we sway...
Would these be itself a seperate paragraph or do I incorporate it into an existing paragraph. I fear if I fused it, the reader will get lost and will loose interest and forget the topic and such.
Whats the best approach ? ~_~

Ishmael Introduction helpIn the book
Ishmael written by Daniel Quinn, Ishmael consistently shows how our civilized society has been born from the ground up from a myth of how we came to be. The world was made for Man, therefore the world belongs to us and we can do whatever we want to it because we own the world. Man's destiny is to rule the world and overcome the limitations that Mother Culture has chained us. Humans are fundamentally bound to screw up therefore we need a prophet to whom we can seek answers.

Thesis from a paragraph of "King Lear" [5]
First thing I'd ask after reading that would be how does love and deciet weave to a symbol of blindness?
If you can over come that. You got it =]

How to Start an Essay (with the question?) [12]
Remember to start the question asking something "interesting" like EF_Kevin noted. =]
But try not to start with those "Throughout history... etc" I heard doing that is a bad way to start an essay

Starting Huckleberry Finn! [12]
I selected this topic:
Twain's book has for years been among the most frequently banned books in America." What is particularly offensive in this book? What is the function of this offensiveness? What does this offensiveness reveal?
and all I've got writen after stareing at it is
Mark Twain's book Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has been considered an offensive book to the critical point of it being banned. A constant reminder that Mark Twain reveals is that racism in society is a problem and must be resolved. Racism is a key factor in what separates society from intertwining and the feeling of isolation towards the "different" race.
I'm not sure what a clear thesis statement would sound like for this... This is my first time selecting a topic that asks such a strange question.
What I had in mind would be (for the thesis) would how M.T. suggests racism is the reason society faulters but thats it...
Any help would be appreciated ^^
Thank you,
Jonathan

Starting Huckleberry Finn! [12]
Thank you very much Sean.
Forgot to thank you in advance yesterday.
The only thing I'm still trying to realize is that even though slavery and radical racism has been delt with to some extent from the past... how does it still affect the minds of todays society...?
I'm not sure if that made any sense at all... I guess what I'm trying to say is how does a book that had problems over 100 years ago still affect today? Society has come a long way (Blacks can vote to Obama being president)
I'll try to think of rewording it in a bit... Just caught a cold so I'm going to relax for a bit.
Thanks in advance and thank you

Starting Huckleberry Finn! [12]
Once again, Thank you Sean for answering my question with great detail.
At the moment, I don't really have any more questions but if I do, I will post a message here again.
Just a quick question towards my topic.
Would it make sense if I mentioned about Huck trying to be civilized by the old widow? Or would that be steering off course of my topic?
Thank you!
Jonathan

Starting Huckleberry Finn! [12]
Tieing sounds really hard..
Would it be something like...
Even though the widow tries to civilize Huck, racism isn't a factor thats considered being "civilized" or not?
And thank you Kevin!
Does this sound like a thesis at all?
Mark Twain suggests that racism has to be presented as direct as possible in order for young people to learn and understand the differences in order to persue today's racial issues.
