Undergraduate / 'how I feel about people and diversity' - Personal Statement- State University of NY [3]
Prompt- how would your academic interest, personal perspectives, and life experiences add to the diversity of a college campus?
My outlook on life and how far I will go in life, can be determined by how I feel about people and diversity, which all came form where I grew up. As a child growing up in New York, the city that never sleeps, people always seem to do questionable things to each other for their own personal gain. I always wanted to know how can people do what ever it takes to achieve something even if it means hurting others. Going to a school with all minority, I never used to see my school as diverse or a good learning place. After being in my A.P literature class I saw diversity as variety of people with different religions, world views and even characteristics. I got to learn new things from classmates from India, China, Caribbean islands and even African. Even though, my school is known for its lack of certain facilities and students with families lacking of funds, some students still try to succeed to better their lives, making me feel inspired and realizing my goals of being a psychologist even more. I've realize I want to learn about the mind of people from all over and possible help them better themselves no matter where they are from or how they look.
How I achieve my goals, all depends on which college I start my journey at. I know there are many other colleges I can choose to go to because my major is common in most colleges. However, I choose this college because personally, I feel it's a great match for me and for the person I want to become. With such knowledgeable professors from all over to learn from and a great social atmosphere with a variety people, I couldn't go wrong. I want to go to this school because I want more than just furthering my education, I want a social life that involves meeting many new people and making connections with them. Even though I can be considered a minority and there are numerous of students who feel they should go to this school because it is a great school to go for people of any region of the world to learn and network at. However, I think I would be a great candidate to choose for this school. With my believes of success and yearn to learn, I would try to succeed in your school academically and socially.
Can someone please tell me how it sounds and if there any grammar or spelling errors.
