Undergraduate / 'being surrounded by people from diverse backgrounds' - The Northwestern Admissions [2]

Hey guys, Could you please go through the essay and help improve it.

The prompt: What are the unique qualities of Northwestern - and of the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying - that make you want to attend the University? In what ways do you hope to take advantage of the qualities you have identified?

The essay: Why would any ambitious, passionate student not want to attend Northwestern which, according to the official website, "seeks to attract and enrol a student body of high ability, one that reflects a variety of talents, ideas, backgrounds, and experiences, thereby contributing to the diversity of the Northwestern community and the enrichment of the undergraduate experience." Northwestern want the best, and so do I.

As one of the top universities in the United States, Northwestern offers students the chance to learn and interact with some of the brightest minds in the world. The number of Fulbright scholars produced by the university is a testament to this fact.

The sheer quality of the faculty and the range of courses being offered at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences (WCAS) will make my study holistic, meaningful and interesting. What I find particularly fascinating about WCAS is the opportunity provided to take additional courses such as the Kellogg Certificate Program and the programs offered by the Centre of Leadership. As I intend to major in Economics before pursuing my masters in Business, the chance to attend such courses at the undergraduate level will be extremely relevant.

Hailing from India, I have seen how the implementation of right economic policies has altered the fortunes of the country, in the last decade. It has stimulated an interest in me to do further research on the wide-ranging implications of economic policies. The fact that Northwestern received more than $511 million in research grants last year itself speaks volumes of the numerous opportunities available to extend the learning beyond the scales of the classrooms.

Internships are integral to the process of further education, as they enable a student to apply his knowledge in practical situations. Going through the resume builder application on the website, it is exciting to know the quality of summer internships that are available to students of Northwestern as well as the extensive array of extracurricular activities that I can participate in my area of interest. The numerous options that WCAS provides with respect to international study programs, volunteering and the opportunity to work on research projects with distinguished faculty is something that I aim to take full benefit of.

Having studied in an international boarding school in India, I have enjoyed the benefits of being surrounded by people from diverse backgrounds. In much the same way, the ethnic diversity of the university's student body will make my experience out of the classroom culturally rich.

Going through the literature of Northwestern University, I am excited to have an opportunity to be a part of student community where minds are challenged, diversity is encouraged, and views are accommodated. Not only do I look forward to hone my intellect but also indulge my passion and love for sports, especially football where I have represented the school at the state level, with the superb facilities offered at Northwestern.

I have visited the sister campus in Qatar (my parents live and work in Doha) and had a brief interaction with students and the faculty. It was a great experience seeing the Northwestern campus in the Middle-East and I am excited at the prospect of being a part of the Evanston campus, where each day is a celebration of excellence.
