Scholarship / 'not content with what I have achieved' - Leadership GMS Question #5 Essay [NEW]

Discuss a leadership experience you have had in any area of your life - school, work, athletics, family, church, community, etc. How and why did you become a leader in this area? How did this experience influence your goals?

A great leader is one who learns from their success and failure. My experience as the marketing lead of my MIT InvenTeam has taught many valuable lessons. During the course of being a team member of my high school InvenTeam, I have participated and experienced inventions that failed and one that worked. As a leader on the marketing team, I have learned lessons that helped me develop into a more well-rounded individual. Though our team was only consisted of three people; I enjoyed working with my colleagues and had a great success as a team contributing to the marketing aspect of the grand project. The ideas we came up with were not all perfect however I had a vision that by combining those good ideas together allowed us to create one great idea on which we can all agree. I personally dedicated a lot of time on observing and analyzing the techniques in which the marketing professionals come up with and try to incorporate and improve our designs. By brain storming and keep alternating designs help us develop sense of well judgement, perseverance, and patience.

There were moments when we fell like giving up is the only way out. Everything were going in the wrong direction for us, we lost all the files we have been putting our hearts and sweat into. Things were not going as planned however I realized that quitting is declaring your own premature defeat. I am convinced that the only thing that keep me going was the determination and passion that I have. At the end, our banner and booth turned out to be fantastic in my point of view, we have scraped majority of the old design and incorporate with the new beauty interface. Our banners had some of the most elegant calligraphy, the booth was designed so that it immediately grabs by passers' attention. In addition to those, I have also created a prototype website interface to show people what our website would be like if we were to sale the product.

Although success is sweet, I am not content with what I have achieved. I feel like I must strive to exceed my accomplishments and that is how I truly learn, not by satisfying with the result but to go back and perfect it in many ways possible. The lessons that I have taken from experience as a marketing lead will be instrumental in my success both at college as well as in life. Passion is all it takes for one to overcome failures and become great, everything else is secondary. Do not be drown in merits, instead look for holes to plug up and only through those mistake one can greatly learn and progress. I will continue to work hard in life to improve myself as well as learn from others; I strongly feel that no one can create my success for me but me. I am the key to my own vault; I am the writer of my own future.

Graduate / 'A Knowledge Seeker' - Master's Program in Chem. & Biomolecular Engineering [4]

Though I enjoyed those learning experiences tremendously, it was not until my Bachelor's dissertation project did I truly find my inner call for research

It was then I knew where my passion and motivation lie - to seek and discover knowledge, a nd I believe a researcher is essentially a seeker of knowledge

Scholarship / 'Medical health care' - GMS Question #4 Essay [3]

Discuss your short and long-term goals. Are some of them related? Which are priorities?

Medical health care are not just in demand, it is a necessity. Many physicians and paramedics are constantly involved in global disasters and crisis areas. These medical practitioners are willing to risk their lives to save others' at all costs; their knowledge and skills are applied to revise and replenish the health of people who lack access of medical care. I aspire to be a physician who can enhance the quality of health of others inside and outside the clinic. I wish to continue my high school education by doing outreach to vulnerable populations or populations with limited access to health care. I would like to work alongside and interact with other medical professionals to gain insight on various types of emergency care and long term treatments for different diseases. I hope to be able to pursue my passions as a college graduate and to able to contribute to the common cause - which is to preserve the health of the individuals of diverse populations through patient care, research, and outreach.

In order to gather my knowledge and strength to prepare me to go on the road of medicine, I enroll in some of the most rigorous classes in my high school. My current goal for this year is to dedicate my best effort into the study of biology as I feel like it is necessary to build my pre-medicine foundation at a young age, cumulative knowledge will help me in the long run in college. I rule out all the personal enjoyments during my high school year, knowing that I need to put in extra effort in order to keep up and excel my fellow classmates because English is not my native language, and dedicate my time into studying and adapt to the new American culture at the same time I want to exceed all expectations and create a stabled academics background for further college education. I believe that my studies in AP Chemistry and Biology will provide me a sea of fundamental knowledge and solely prepare me for my major in biochemistry major in college.

Life is a novel made up of short stories and some how those stories can inter connect to one another making a linked chain to create life. I believe that little steps that I am taking both in society and in school will some how guide me to achieve my ultimate goal that is working as a medical practitioner and making a positive impact on people's health and incentive to give back to serve my community no matter where I am on Earth.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep working it, though I thought I expressed my reasons clearly via the first 2 sentences in the introduction.
