Undergraduate / 'Playing poker and meeting new people' - Stanford- Letter to roommate essay [4]

Here is my letter to my roommate essay, it kind of turned into something other than what I intended it to be and I'm not exactly sure if it fits the prompt. It isn't the typical letter format that I seem to be seeing a lot.

Let me describe a scenario that brings me joy to just think about. Windows rolled down, driving fast, a Blink-182 song that accentuates my mood blaring, so that all I can hear is the wind streaming past my face and the booming sound emitting from the car door speakers. All I see in front of me is a beautiful kaleidoscopic sunset that suggests the divine. The Texas heat warms the car, but not enough to necessitate the air conditioner. I enjoy very little more than I do a summer scene such as this, my most effective stress reliever. Having time alone with myself to ponder and simply appreciate life is important to me. While solitary drives provide much needed time detached from my circumstances, they also provide an easy opportunity to become a part of the world, if only as another car in the lengthy queues of nighttime traffic. See, as much as I feel I need this time to just get away, I love being around people, in places that force me to recognize that I am a small part of something much larger than myself. I like just getting out of the house and going somewhere, even if that somewhere is unknown to me. In my opinion, spontaneity betters an experience. Honestly, though, as much as I would take joy in living an extemporaneous life that consistently offers original and thrilling experiences, up to this point life has not exactly been like that. I will never complain, though, because I have been very blessed and love my life. Hanging out with my friends never fails to be fun, and usually consists of playing basketball, watching t.v., playing poker, or sometimes even playing a game of Risk. Something that I am tremendously looking forward to about college is the freedom to meet new people, experience new things, and learn more about myself. But for now, whether its playing basketball with my friends or driving to the sound of "Asthenia" with the sensation of wind in my face, I simply enjoy the little things that make life so wondrous.

Undergraduate / Stanford Essay: What matters to you, and why? Wanna be done today so let me know :) [3]

I think its pretty good, and the last few sentences actually give good closure. You may want to think about cutting out some of the details about the trip and go into more detail about why it gives you a sense of belonging and happiness, or say more about what it has done for you friendship wise. The competition just doesn't really do much in describing why sailing matters to you, so you might want to keep that in there instead and just go into more detail as to why that trip describes why sailing matters to you. Well written though!
