Undergraduate / Syracuse supp/ Who & what influenced?/ Dream person & Syracuse / Work experience [6]
Syracuse
1. Who or what influenced you to apply to Syracuse University?
The ones who influence me to apply to college, in general, are my parents. They make me see how life is hard when you don't have an education to back you up. Wanting me to be different, they help me pursue my dreams to go to college. But what influences me to apply to Syracuse University? The fact that their diversity may not be the most balanced, but that they have centers to bring them all close together, each ethnicity with ethnicity. Like "La Casita Cultural Center" where they seek to bring the latinos all together. Me being a latina, i find this essential since growing up with latinos, I'll get home sick and i could just go to this center and feel like i am in my neighborhood again.
2. Who is the person you dream of becoming and how do you believe Syracuse University can help you achieve this?
I have always been the one to play it safe. People called me boring because I didn't want to go on the new rollercoaster at Coney Island or go to the midnight premiere of a movie at Times Square. I could've but i over thought it too much and backed out. Better safe than sorry, right? Well, i want to change that. I want to become someone who isn't afraid, that has the guts to do whatever she wants without double thinking it. Like trying some new exotic foods or traveling somewhere no one will ever think I could go. I want memories that will know that i lived a life where i know i didn't make a waste of my life.
3. If you have had work experience what skills and/or knowledge did you gain?
The only job experience that i have done is babysitting, with no pay. My dad has never wanted me to work an official job, he has always wanted me to just focus on my school work. I appreciate it alot because school can be very stressful as it is, and with work, i think i would have gained grey hairs already. Even though babysitting may seem simple and an easy task, it can be pretty handy. But I have gained important skills while babysitting. Multi-tasking became my new best friend. When you have a project due the next day, and you're stuck babysitting the night before with a baby girl who doesn't be quiet unless you have her in your arms, it can get pretty crazy. But i learned to have it all under control and do what i have to do.
