Graduate / What is the best country in the world? URUGUAY [4]

The best country in the world is, of course, Uruguay.

Uruguay is a really small country located in South America, between Brazil and Argentina. It doesn't have a large population but its heart is big!

My country is a very peaceful and comfortable place to live. People is friendly and educated, you can ask for help anyone in the street. The standard of living is very good and the pace of live a bit slow.

It's very common to see people drinking "mate" on the street and everywhere. Mate is the typical Uruguayan drink, is a kind of herbal tea, but you need a cup and a thermo with hot water to drink it.

The weather is really nice from January to March if you like the beach and sunbathing. But in winter the climate change and it is really freezing and windy.

Uruguay has many places to visit. Montevideo is the capital of the country. It has a beautiful European architecture, loads of parks and beaches. Other beautiful place is Punta del Este, it is one of the most modern and cosmopolitan cities in South America. It is very popular with tourists. You can find extravagant hotels, exclusive restaurants, a great night life and fantastic beaches.

However Uruguay also has natural areas, where you can enjoy closer to the nature. For example, Rocha is a province in the west of the country, where you can do many sports like paragliding, surfing, and climb sand hills. Rocha has spectacular views and scenery, and the sunset at the beach is the best!

About the food, you will be able to eat delicious roast beef and barbecues. And enjoy drinking excellent red wines!

Undergraduate / My grandfather, the person I admire most/ Common APP [3]

If I have to choose a very important person who influenced me, I will definitely say my grandfather.

My grandfather was born in 1922 in Montevideo, Uruguay. When he was 5 years old he had to start work because his father died, so his first work was as a shoes-polisher. In that time, it was more common that children work, but in this case it was an obligation, he had to help his mother to maintain his little brother.

For that reason he could not finish his studies at primary school. But equally he was a very educated person. He enjoyed reading books, magazines or the newspaper every day. He knew a lot about history and politics.

He was exceptionally creative; he was always inventing new things for his work and life in general. He worked as a shoemaker for many years. Thanks to he was hard-working and perseverant; he could open his own business and work on his own.

He had a friendly face, but he was not very chatty. He was an honest, tolerant and fair person, who never talks bad of other people and never lies to anyone.

I admire him because he has very strong principles and he taught me that in life you must work hard to advance and always be honest.
