Writing Feedback / [IELTS] The role of parents and school in teaching children [2]
Dear all,
This is my essay, please discuss and correct it for me if needed.
Some people think that parents should teach children how to be good member of society. Others, however, believe that school is the place to learn this.
Discuss in both views and give your opinion (IELTS Cambridge book 8, Test 1)
People have different views about whether parents or school should teach children to become good member of society. In my view, parents play more important role than school on teaching children.
There are two main reasons why it could be argued that parents should teach the children to be good member of society. Firstly, parents have major influence on children's behaviour, especially when they are 3-to 5-years-olds. Children learn almost things from their parents, including bad characteristics and good characteristics. For example: children could learn tell lie from aged 3 from their parents, so that parents could be role models for children and navigate them to be good people. Secondly, parents take responsibilities for their children until their aged 18, and they also participate in wild range of their children activities such as: sport, education... therefore it is easy for parents to educate their children a good behaviour.
However, I would agree with those who believe that school is the place to teach children to be good member of society. In the one hand, the schools aim to educate children to become good member in society. The school impose good disciplines on children, and this could train children to obey the rules. Beside that they could also learn academic courses for broadening their knowledge. In the other hand, children could contact with other children so that they can build the social skills in school and improve good characteristics for themselves.
In conclusion, while there are some reasons to believe that school is the place to teach children, my own view is that parents should educate children to be good member in society.
