After completing my master in UK i will return to indonesia and continue my career as internal auditor of indonesian government. I will use the skills and knowledge that I have while studying in the UK to advance my career in the future.

I am targeting promotion from team member to team leader within 2 years from now. At this level, the abilities I have gained from my master course and network will greatly assist my task in building communication with various elements in implementing government policy governance. Six years later, I targeted a promotion to a technical supervisor level and two years later returned to promotion to a supervisory coordinator. At both levels of this position, my ability as an internal auditor of the Indonesian government is needed to communicate and implement government public policies to succeed. As a government auditor overseeing the implementation of government performance accountability systems is a fundamental task. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain and build cooperation with stakeholders to make the policy more beneficial for the community and partners. Three years later I targeted to be the chief representative. This position has a great responsibility for me as an auditor in overseeing and implementing public policies at the local/regional government. Five years later I'm targeting I've become the highest leader in the institution I work for right now. At this level, responsibility is enormous in terms of guarding and formulating government policies. At this level a network (national or international) that has been built will be very useful to achieve the goals of government organizations. This can be done by building governance and supervision and building cooperation with other parties. A few years later if I had the opportunity I would target being a minister or head of government organization even president of indonesia.The UK can take this opportunity to create more lucrative bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UK through UK projects in Indonesia.

Internal auditors are responsible for overseeing and implementing Indonesian government policies. Current issues in public policy in Indonesia include long bureaucracy, lack of transparency, inconsistent regulations, poor infrastructure resulting in high costs. On the other hand, Indonesia is a country of abundant natural resources, high levels of consumption, the largest economy in southeast asia, and stable politics since the 1998 reforms. For that I will encourage governments to fix those weaknesses through better monitoring systems and influence government policy in generating accountable and transparent public policies such as developing an investment regulatory framework, local taxes and policies in other economic sectors.

If good and clean governance of Indonesia is established within the next 15-20 years in which I will play an important role, Indonesia will become a major economic powerhouse in the world. Opportunities to increase cooperation with other countries such as the UK will be enormous. Both countries can increase their bilateral cooperation which is currently under Singapore, Japan, US, South Korea, Netherlands, and British Virgin Islands as the biggest investors to Indonesia.

Studying in the UK

I chose three courses at three different universities in the UK. First is Economic Development and Policy Analysis at Notthingham University. The reason I choose this course because it is very relevant to my previous education and my current work experience. My undergraduate education background is a development economics. And my current job is an internal auditor of the Indonesian government which requires me to provide consultation and guidance to the government in determining and influencing government policy for public services. This course offers a great combination for my career in the next few years. Experts in preparing government public policies, especially in the field of economics and development with a very good educational background will make me as a person who is needed by the government of Indonesia. For example, as an auditor I will provide suggestions and recommendations on tax and levy management policies. This is what makes me able to influence public policy in Indonesia both local government and national governments in the next few years.

Secondly, I chose the Public Economics at Durham university. The reason I chose this course because it is more specific and in-depth in public sector economic studies, where in other universities the public economics is just a module. Background in economics, and my current job as a civil servant relating to guidance on public service governance makes this department very important for my future career. The knowledge i get from this course will be used to help the government in planning, budgeting, administration and reporting so that opinion on government financial reports can increase from disclaimer and qualified to unqulified opinion. In addition, I can also provide advice and recommendations in building public policy formulation for a reliable internal control system.

Lastly I chose Development Economics at Birmingham University. I chose this course to improve my ability in theory and the application of economic policy. My advantage is that I already have an economic education background that I have gained in undergraduate and this will allow me to complete my course. Development Economics is very important for developing countries and emerging markets such as Indonesia because it requires good analytical and technical skills in solving economic development issues. The skills of this course will help me to advance my career in the public sector in the future to provide recomendations on goverment public policies in the economic sector.

The conclusion is that all three majors I choose are very good and relevant to my educational background, and my current job. In addition, this course is also at the top universities in the UK. On the other hand, this course will accelerate my future career advancement in governance and policy making in public sector as I will play a role in helping to formulate the framework of public policies, especially in economic and development, as well as overseeing the implementation in Indonesia in accordance with the duties and function of an internal auditor.
