Writing Feedback / IELTS Writing Task 1: bar chart about top ten countries in electricity consumption [5]

the rank of consumed and produced electricity (2014)

The bar chart gives information about ten countries which consumed and produced most electricity in 2014.

China and the United States were the top two nations that both held high consumption and production in electricity. It is noticeable that Germany was the only country using more electricity than generated.

The top one country on the chart is China, which generated 5,398 billion kwh of electricity and consumed 5,322 billion kwh. The US also had similar amount of data, with 4,099 billion kwh of production and 3,866 billion of consumption.

By contrast, countries that ranked third to tenth had much smaller figures. Russia only produced over one thousand billion kwh, approximately a quarter of that in the US. Japan and India as well had output nearly a thousand billion kwh, however India was the nation with more surplus electricity. the tenth ranking country. Korea, was the only one which had both production and consumption of electricity under 500 billion kwh.

Writing Feedback / IELTS Writing Task 1: diagram describing procedure of electricity generation [3]

hydroelectric power station

The process diagram illustrates steps of how a hydroelectric powerplant produce electricity.

The power station is situated in between two water reservoirs, high-level and low-level. There are two stages in electricity production. At day water flows down to the power station, generating power. At night water stored in the lower-level reservoir is pumped to the high-level one, refilling the water store.

In order to collect water coming from rivers in the high-level reservoir, a dam is constructed. During the day, the intake under the dam is open and water flows down through the reversible turbines, operating the generator to produce electricity. The power then transfers to national grid through power lines, while the flow of water is stored in the lower-level reservoir.

At night, water in low-level reservoir is pumped back into the high-level one using the same turbines in power station and pipe lines. In this stage, the intake is closed. When water is transferred into the high-level reservoir, the power station is ready to start the procedure of power generation again.

Writing Feedback / The competitive sports in the school curriculum - gives confidence with abilities to reach goals [3]

In general I think the structure is clear. You give brief introduction of the topic and offer your opinion, and there are also adequate ideas to support the essay. However grammar errors and wrong collocations make some sentences confusing. In second paragraph it should be " competition among students will provide them with chances to try to be more successful than...". Students are the one who have the opportunities, not competition.
