Undergraduate / Software engineering and computer science programs - AIF 1 Reasons and Waterloo [3]

Hey! Fellow applicant here.

Although I can see an outline of your educational goals, they get drowned by the three "reasons for applying to Waterloo" answers. Interest in your chosen program is lacking. Yes, you've talked about why Waterloo is so good, but there is no case against what SE will do for you other than co-op.

"enable me to learn from others' mistakes instead of my own." This is a fallacy. Every engineer makes mistakes themselves and must do so to succeed. Instead, talk about how it will improve your analysis of mistakes and failures.

"fosters professional development from day one, adding ..." This is too generic, in fact, this may even be paraphrased from their website. They know this, tell them something they don't know. Will you make an invention? What will SE help you with making this invention? What will co-op contribute to you making this invention? These are just examples you can answer to make it sound more personal, don't feel restricted.

"I aspire to define new frontiers of innovation and build ... " How are you going to do this? Create something? Become an entrepreneur?

Best of luck!

Undergraduate / Waterloo AIF Nanotechnology Engineering program [5]

I would suggest looking into the brochures Waterloo has on their website. They have information about what extra opportunities are offered for each program. Talking about these opportunities can help you stand out since most applicants opt for the co-op = amazing option. For example, Engineering has the Sedra Design Center that hosts a Rocketry Team; I find Aerospace interesting, so I mentioned that. What @Holt mentioned could be remedied with the information on these brochures; you could explain how these opportunities (the laboratories, internships, unique learning aspects, etc.) can help you revolutionize nanoscience. You should find these so called brochures by searching them up or looking under the applications tab on their website. Best of luck, fellow applicant!

Here is the fixed version:

Please tell us about your educational goals, your interest in your chosen program(s), and your reasons for applying to the University of Waterloo. If you have applied to more than one program, please discuss your interest in each program. (900 characters limit)

Programs: Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science

I want to get an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Math, or CS, and become an entrepreneur while gaining industrial experience through the co-op program. Waterloo Engineering provides experience in large multidisciplinary teams and innovative technologies while connecting individuals to intellectually diverse communities. Alongside these opportunities, the Engineering IDEAs Clinic, the Sedra Design Centre, and its Rocketry Team are of specific interest to me; such playgrounds are the backbone of innovation and, thus, the next steps in accomplishing my goals as an entrepreneur in the aerospace industry. Building on my passion for space, I am also interested in unknowns. In either Math or CS, I want to master data analysis and problem-solving. Coupled with a range of co-op opportunities and surrounded by the Institutes for Quantum Computing and Theoretical Physics, these programs provide a solid foundation in research while building people-oriented skills. These opportunities are essential for any entrepreneur and are the reasons why I chose Waterloo.

It is 180 characters over the limit, so thoughts on that alongside general criticism would also be nice :)
