Scholarship / The operational staff - How have you contributed to solving a challenge and to implementing change [2]

Hai, this is my first time applying for AAS, also first time making an essay for scholarship. Please help me reviewing my essay, any advice will be meaningfull for me! Thankyou in advance :))

How have you contributed to solving a challenge and to implementing change or reform?

(2000 char)
*(Be specific and include: what aspect/s of your leadership, knowledge, skills and practice you consider to be well established and effective; which people or organizations you worked with to solve the problem; and what creative methods were used.)

During my experience in the coal mining industry, I joined a team with diverse backgrounds as a Project Engineer focused on Construction, Dewatering, and Rehabilitation. I was responsible for designing plans and directly communicating them with the operational department, who work directly in the field and carry out my plans. However, a difference between my plan with their actual work sometimes happens. For example, when I gave directions to widen, layer, and compact the hauling road that must be completed within three days, it exceeded the planned time and was not even according to the design road. Eventually, I conducted an evaluation and found out that the cause of the problems was due to an ineffective handover job. It results in low productivity, increased operational cost and delayed other works while also increasing safety issues due to repetitive work.

Therefore, I create a work order (WO) program to improve the system. It simplifies the handover job and facilitates communication through sketches or designs while documenting the agreement on plans between the project engineer and the operational department. Moreover, it acts as evidence of accountability for evaluating a work project. At first, I received rejections of its implementation because some operational staff preferred to work as usual. They felt burdensome by additional responsibility.

Consequently, I negotiated with the operational staff and welcomed their suggestions to resolve the problem. After analysing it, I presented the results in a meeting with my superiors, and since they approved my ideas about gradually implementing my program, I started to socialise it. I used a persuasive method to explain that the project engineers will implement the program gradually so that staff can adapt to the new system and its benefits over time. In the end, I successfully implemented my WO program as an improvement and showed a decrease in operational cost and safety issues yet increasing productivity by 5%.

Graduate / AAS Question About Human Resoursces needs [4]

Hai, I think it will be better to just directly state 'yes i will/not' in the first sentence of your essay. It will answer the question directly. After that you can star giving your reasons to your 'yes/no'. Good luck with your application!

Scholarship / The contribution of the proposed study to your career as a geoscientist - AAS [3]

Hai, good day everyone, here is my second essay for AAS supporting statement. I really need your help to read and review this essay for my application. Please, give me feedbacks on my writings. Thank you in advance :))

How will the proposed study contribute to your career?

My career goal is to become a geoscientist specialising in mineral resources. After working in the coal mining industry for one year, I realised that the government are trying to implement the energy transition towards clean energy to prevent climate change with the net-zero target by 2060. Certainly, preparations are needed, especially as it will be a mineral-intensive event of critical minerals, including rare-earth (REE). Therefore, I want to contribute to the REE Industry research and development, as I have experienced REE research during my undergraduate project. Moreover, I intend to join the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as a geoscientist. However, I still lack the experience and knowledge to efficiently explore and exploit REE while adjusting to the tectonic complexities and developing REE mining projects.

Studying specialised courses of mineral resources in Master of Geoscience will increase my knowledge and practical skills to address the most crucial issue regarding REE, which is to estimate its reserve and distribution as initial data for investors. Hence, essential for developing my country's REE industry and economy.

When joining the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, I want to focus on research for REE Industry's development and publish journals to educate people on REE. In addition to getting a career promotion, the experience of learning from Australia's experts in REE Industry will help me reach my career advancement to become the Head of Mineral and Coal Department. It will also help me assist the government with innovation for REE mining regulations. Eventually, upon completing the Master's degree, I will have a broader range of career options that benefit the mining industry and improve my country's economy while becoming a well-educated society and a highly trained professional.
