Undergraduate / Help with UVA supplement: "Our Road" [4]

Hey all, I am having trouble with this UVa supplement, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Prompt----What work of art, music, science, mathematics, or literature has surprised,
unsettled, or challenged you, and in what way?---

Our Road
The pervading sense of danger created in The Road, made for and unsettling yet interesting experience, it was like being followed by a murderer and after days of running, and having lost everyone I loved, the murderer was finally caught- and I had become involved with the journey; the two main characters were on. To be involved so realistically with a book that deals with: cannibals, gruesome deaths, the apocalypse, and that always present sense of threat and danger, throws you into a state of anxiety, and anticipation for that next defeating event to occur, not only to the characters but also, to you. Yet, what unsettled me the most about the book, was not the fear of attack, it was the lack of an end goal- the characters had, and subsequently a lack of hope.

After having been through The Road's vivid and despairing portrayal of the world, I was relieved but also sickened. I was relieved to have ended the anxiety of its journey, yet sickened and unsettled by the images conjured up in its pages, and the lack of plans the characters had for the future. Their blind perseverance unsettled me to my core; their journey was like walking in the dark- we had no solid goals other than to stay alive.
