Youth's Lack of InterestWe find ourselves today in a generation full of young adults that know little or nothing about the world that surrounds them. Who can blame them? They have school, family, friends, sports, and their own personal issues to worry about, which keep them from engaging with outside problems. The real issue is not that they live hectic lives because if that were the case, then no one would know about problems that were going on in the world. The main setback here is: many young adults are starting to become uninterested in today's political concerns, which inn return, affect them. Take voting for example. In the 2000 presidential election, only 36.1 percent of adults, ages 18-24, voted. As one can see, the percentage of young adults that voted is very low. This is due, according to research, to the youth's lack of knowledge in the politics area. This is obviously something to be very concerned about since these vote are the ones that decide the future of our country. Another common reason as to why young people do not vote is because they believe one will not make a difference. If these young adults were informed and more concerned about what was going on around them, they would realize that one person can make a difference. They could go out and pass out flyers to people, informing them about the different parties that were running. That way they would really make a difference. With all the different activities that young people have today, it is not surprising to see that they lose interest on important political issues that go on today.
