"a vigorous cultural appetite" - why I'm interested in the University of Chicago [3]
Hi. I'm an international student and english is my second language (although I've spoken english throughout my entire life). I'd love to hear any comments & corrections, I know I might have some mistakes in grammar that I'd love to correct. Any kind of help would be highly appreciated!PROMPT:
How does the University of Chicago, as you know it now, satisfy your desire for a particular kind of learning, community, and future? Please address with some specificity your own wishes and how they relate to Chicago.Ever since a young age I've developed a vigorous cultural appetite. My intellectual interests embrace a wide range of intellectual fields and disciplines such as: history, arts, music, philosophy, international relations, economics, and politics. I deem that an educated member of the society must not be limited to the acquaintance of a single branch of knowledge. A good education must cover the basic traits of multiple disciplines and stimulate the formation of high-functioning and well-informed individuals. For this reason, I've always wanted to become part of an academic institution that acknowledges the value of liberal education and emphasizes the discovery of knowledge by stimulating intellectual inquiry among its students.
The University of Chicago soon caught my attention during my college selection process; it matched with my expectations by offering an absorbing environment that spurs intellectual exploration and demands academic excellence. The core curriculum offers exactly what I've been looking for: an intriguing academic program that embraces the primary areas of knowledge while cultivating skills suitable for my career and my life. The prestigious political science program at the University of Chicago played a significant role in my application decision. Honestly, I fell in love with it. All courses are appealing to me; I'd take them all if I could. I love the way the program offers an overview of the politics of various regions, stimulates class debates by emphasizing sociopolitical controversies, and encourages the students to formulate their own ideas.
I've engaged in numerous debates and diplomatic forums simulations during high school and I intend to continue doing so during college. Debating is my passion; the fact that the University of Chicago has one of the leading debating teams definitely inspired me. I have no doubt I can contribute to the award winning tradition of the Chicago Debate Society. The cultural and academic opportunities offered by the city of Chicago also fostered my interest for the University of Chicago. The opportunities for internship, the collection of historic sites and cultural institutions, and the vivid life of a big city turn Chicago into a fascinating place to live my college experience. I truly feel that the University of Chicago is the ideal academic institution for me; it offers the kind of learning experience that suits my avid desire to become a lettered citizen of the world.
