MA innovation management, central saint martins [5]
hi i am applying to MA innovation management at central saint martins, London. please take a look at my statement of purpose and feel free to criticize. Also i have not written the conclusion as yet, as i was finding it a little difficult to convincingly draft a link between my area of study to the innovation management course. pls suggest a conclusion.
SOPAs a child, I was spellbound by cartoons. I laughed at the exaggerations in Pinocchio and cried looking at Cinderella. And to this day I find it extremely interesting, how the art of drawing, animation and storytelling, has lead us to believing in a world of fiction as real as ours and filled with endless possibilities. As my interest grew deeper, I started to observe things around me and wondered how these animation films were made.
From my school days I have been an ardent activist in getting things done as a group and perhaps this was the point in time when I first acknowledged the importance of effective communication. As the cultural secretary I was able to improve my people skills and understand the essentials of working in a group.
At high school I chose to take commerce and scored particularly well in business studies and accounts. By the side my love for creativity was constantly fuelling in me.
So, after graduating from high school, my interests varied fields.. art, commerce. Had I chosen commerce, I would have taken a longer route towards my dream. So I joined an institute in Chandigarh where I learnt the basics of fine art and drawing.
To delve further I embarked on my design expedition to Pune and took admission in Symbiosis Institute of Design where I completed my under-graduate degree in Communication design specialising in Animation Film Design. The first two years at the course were like studying a potpourri of varied fields in design; from film design to user experience design, graphic design and animation film design. My increasing curiosity in the latter two made me pursue several projects which led to practical skill development. As dynamic and adaptive is graphic design so are its branches; Identity Design in particular. It acts as a tool of effective communication and as simple it may sound it does wonders to brand building.
On the other hand, animation film design has been a significant symbol of my ambition and self discovery. It was not just creating a well balanced design but giving life to imagination that allured me to pursue animation as my field of specialisation. During this course, I not only learned 2-D (traditional and digital) and 3-D animation but also developed great skill in sketching. It was this overall approach that helped me to grow in multi dimensions and efficiently work from the pre-production to the post production stage and create an animation film.
By the end of the 7th semester, i started thinking on the lines to construct a good story for my degree project and it was only through significant mind mapping on a number of ideas that lead me to the concept of my graduation film 'Kootneeti'. The film was greatly appreciated and was recently selected for the new talent section of Step 2 Collabo TV and I was interviewed for the same.
Travelling across Hoshiarpur, Chandigarh and Pune I have learnt and adapted to new people and languages. My journey in design is reflective of all such collective experiences around me. After my graduation, I started working as a freelance designer. Every new project required fresh thinking, newer challenging ideas not monotonous but refreshing and innovative. My work varied from Identity design to illustration and animation. While working with a number of clients added great value to my development as a designer, it also made me ponder on the business side of design.
