Writing Feedback / "The rose of desert" hotel - description of a place I don't recommend [3]

Here are a few recommended changes:

"The Rose of the Desert" is a 4 star hotel situated in the center of a holiday resort, Hurghada. The hotel is five stories with interesting and unparalleled architecture, advertised as a great spot to break away from your everyday life. Well, the hotel visit will definitely make for an unforgettable vacation, unfortunately, not attributed towards any good experiences. I came to the hotel with a very good attitude, prompted by positive reviews. At first everything was fine, the taxi driver was uncommonly pleasant and the hotel looked amazing from the outside. Unfortunately after crossing the threshold the charm was ruined. The first thing I had to deal with was the staff, unbelievably mean, and treated me as if I were a nuisance. Secondly the cafeteria was a complete disaster! The hotel description had me anticipating lobster, but all I saw were canned sardines! In addition, the furnishings were dirty and dusty, as if nobody cleaned them for months. That is not all, when I finally managed to get to my room I experienced an even bigger disappointment. My room advertised with a view, had only one, very small window through which I could see the wall of another hotel. The floor creaked after my every move, the mattress was close to disintegrating, and the originally white sheets looked like worms had eaten parts for their lunch. My last disappointment was with the live entertainment, I must have imagined it, because there was no entertainment to be found. This was, without doubt, the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in. I am well-traveled and definitely not posh, but this hotel was expected to be luxurious due to the high price when it clearly was not. The Rose of the Desert is due for a complete restoration including with the staff if they hope to stay in business.

Undergraduate / "to teach positive change with peace in mind" - Peace Corps enterance [3]

Separate societies

First Draft: (322 words)

I have had many opportunities while traveling and living abroad to overcome a variety of challenges and therefore have matured as a confident, culturally aware, and responsible young woman. One experience that stands out occurred when I first realized my love for travel. I grew up in a small town and continued to a fairly small university, this was my comfort zone. Blessed with a passion for serving others, I knew I had greater potential. I followed the advice from a Brian Tracy quote, "Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new." After my second year in college I enrolled in a program to study abroad in Morelia, Mexico. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, I stereotyped Mexicans into one group, dark skinned, poor, and catholic with little education. Today I attribute my strongest quality towards my naive labeling, my open mindedness. I had been wrong about Mexico and felt ashamed that I had held a stereotype to begin with. Taking every opportunity from that point forward, I have soaked up information about different customs, culture and history. The more I am able to expand my mind, the more I notice my thought process changing as well. I do not believe that there is any right or wrong way to do something, only opportunities to gain clearer understanding for different cultures. I have learned how imperative it is not to pre-judge as in our nature, and that by having an open mind you are able to integrate and appreciate a whole new lifestyle. Currently I am pursuing a Masters in Intercultural Services, Leadership and Management where I believe that by understanding the differences between separate societies, we may be able to help communities gain knowledge while preserving their culture. We need to teach positive change with peace in mind without encroaching another's beliefs and values.
