Undergraduate / NCSSM Admissions Essay #1: "Awards, Certificates, Projects, and Recognitions" [2]
Hi everyone! I'm applying to a prestigious residential high school called the "North Carolina School of Science and Math" (or NCSSM for short). It's highly competitive, and I want to be positive that my essays are at least sub-par. I haven't always exactly been the best writer, so hopefully I can get a little help with these. ;)
All essays have a 1500 character limit, and my first one is about awards, certificates, projects, and recognitions:
My awards and recognitions start far before high school - I've been earning awards for as long as I can remember. I really started raking in the awards when I was in elementary school - during that time I earned over 50 awards in attendance, academics, and participation in extracurricular activities.
In the 6th grade, I began studying for a competition called MathCounts - a nationwide competition for middle school students. Out of our school's "team", I was one of the few to make it to the final round in the 8th grade. I have also participated in the AMC-8 competition in the 8th grade and received the highest grade in the class.
My successes are not all academic - I also have a particular affinity with the saxophone. In the 8th grade, I was the greatest saxophone in the entire band, and received special recognition at the end of the year. During my 9th grade year, I traveled to Florida with my class for a band competition called OrlandoFest. We stayed in Florida for a few days, worked together, had fun, and walked away with a 2nd place trophy.
