A place for You

It has been said that writing can heal a person's soul. But who do you write for? And what do you write about? How can you begin to write about a burning past and heal a broken heart, when inconceivable memories of a complex childhood run back to you; like a child running to his mother as if he done something wrong. The pain that inflicted my soul as a child have not been erased by apologies, for they are still with me. Memories I forced myself to forget. I pleaded with myself to banish all negative thoughts that have encroached my mind, but I have failed.

I see life as a knotted sweatshirt made of wool, only to be undone by the carelessness of the person who wears it. It never occurred to me that the twenty-six years of agonizing pain and a life time of dejection that inhabits my life is my destiny. The pain and sorrow I feel living with a life-threatening illness that could swallow me up at any given moment. I don't know how exactly, or why my heart is as black as night, its one of those enigmas I must find an answer too. I know finally; however, the meanness of my own spirit. This I can find.

I try to close my eyes and dream of a angel, invisible to everyone else. Her eyes are as blue as the ocean. Her completion is crisp and clear as the morning sun. Her long white dress in which she wears falls to the ground like a waterfall off to the side of a canyon. Her voice is a soft whisper, like the summer rains of those first few moments when it trickles down and the dark clouds open once again. I want to sleep under the weeping willow tree and listen to the sounds of the rain. I'll sleep so soundly, and when I awake, I will be happy again.

I take things too seriously and hold these bottled up memories inside of me. My life is like a unmarked crossroad, no direction, no signs as to what path I should take. I just feel like sharing the few moments of my dull life, typing away the frustration I feel inside. I feel like I particularly lie to my own self every word I utter. How are you doing today? People ask and I reply, I'm fine.

I'm being pulled away from everyone and everything I've ever known. And the feelings inside of me seem so fake. I have become caged bird in my own body, a robot, so to speak. I just want to cry, but my eyes are dry like a bone. Baby steps, I say, as I begin to grow and adjust into my new life as an adult.

I really don't know who I am or what I am supposed to become, and I feel like I should have done something by now after twenty-six years.... I just feel like a dehydrated prune, ready to soak up the water of the universe and live once again. Then again, these are feelings from my own selfish pride. I wish desperately that I could be brave, bold, and strong, so I could forget the memories of my fragmented past that have been washed up by my fuming thoughts.

Reforming America's Educational Values

The one thing that strikes me about the two generations is distinction in the lack of help from the government in our education system and how much school has culturally, ethnically, and racially diverse it has become. For nearly fifty years, the government has been under the impression that besieging students with homework will challenge them to think for themselves. Consequently, American kids have been less concerned with their homework and more fascinated with their Ipods.

I have attended both public school education and private school education in my life time, and the differences are unbelievable! During my time in private school, I felt a sense of understanding. Throughout the years I spent in public school, I was overwhelmed by the excessive amount of homework, the congested classrooms, in which I spent many hours, and the unsafe environment I had to study in. My public education was slighted.

Students today are growing up in a multimedia environment where technology surrounds us. All day long I hear phones buzzing, and radios that speak a foreign language I cannot interpret. I wonder how people made it in the past without cell phones or other high-tech necessities.

American schools are in crisis. I do not understand how we can live in a country full of riches and our education not is the top priority. I am really disappointed at our current leadership. Now-n-days, students are plagued with an onslaught of curriculum our government thinks is plausible. But this is the least of our worries.

In 2001, the No Child Left Behind act was signed into law by President George W. Bush. The law has created a scorn towards teachers. There is little room left to teach the proper way. This new law has forced teachers to coach students and teach them the basics so they can score high in order to obtain funds for their schools. And if they fail, so do the school.

It never cases to amazes me how much the government has humiliated and embarrassed young people for the entire world to see. The nature of school has changed dramatically in the past decade because of these laws. Many teachers and students are feeling betrayed by our government. Sure kids understand what writing is, but because of these laws, teachers are unable to teach their students how to put their thoughts on paper and make sense out of what they are trying to say.

Many parents will often cite the existing problems within our schools are because of the lack of help their children are receiving and are turning to an alternative means of educating their children. Home schooling is steadily becoming the number one choice for parents when it comes to education because the public school system is failing to meet their child's academic, individual, and handicap needs.

How did we get to this point? The answer is simple. It is because the government retains control over the public school system. They decide what type of content will be on our curriculum. Instead of taking two years of English, for instance, we are now forced to endure another two more. Nonetheless, I can not simply place our system; there are many factors to blame.

Students learn from modeling. Their models are programs on MTV. And the only foreign language they are being taught is the Music they listen to. When you ask a student what freedom means to them, they will answer Pepsi or Coke, Verizon or Cingular? Do you blog? This is pushing our children father and farther behind. It's absurd.

If we want to utilize the education system, we must cut back on how many external influences are taking in. Improving our schools does not begin by challenging out system, but rather challenging our kids. The pop culture children are growing up in today threatens to erode them from the very fundamental education that will help them become successful citizens later on in life.

Former President Clinton once said that "We" can make "America" better if we suspend our cynicism. Trusting in our government will only hurt us and our children. Our lives are made up of choices. Why not let our first ethical choice be for a better, school system for all of our children?

Writing Feedback / Thesis help: Education better or worse? [7]

Can anyone help me come up with a thesis for this question:

how the education of your generation is better or worse than the education of your parent's generation.

What else could I add about modern day education?

Could anyone help me improve it further? I am still short on the amount of words and stumped as to what else I could add to it.

It is true that education in America's urban school districts today is worse than what it was twenty or thirty years ago. The quality of education in America, in relation to the rest of the world, is rapidly declining. America's students are falling behind their counterparts in aspects of the world such as Asia and Europe. These days, students are not taking education seriously. Part of the reason is because educators are not focusing or paying enough attention to each student on an individual basis. Faced with financial problems and overcrowding classrooms, neither schools nor teachers can afford to pay special attention to those who do not learn at the same manner as the rest of their peers.

The problem of too many students, often 30 or more, are just too much for teachers to handle. Furthermore, social behavior has become a great concern for educators. Teachers who have to spend a considerable amount of time keeping the class in line; takes away time spent on giving students instructions on how to complete the work properly. Some may argue that there needs to be a set of rules enforced, like a teacher-run court. However, even if the rules were enforced, there is no guarantee of the child's improvements in their academics.

During the 1960s and 1970s, smaller school systems, and classroom sizes were ideal. The averaging size was about 250 students. Students were able to receive an ample amount of attention from their teachers. They were actually learning the information given to them, and the quality of life after high school was promising. Today, however, the classroom sizes and amount of curriculum activities have more than tripled, and the amount of students per school has swollen to an astonishing 3200 students. Nonetheless, many academic communities are adapting to the new digital society in which we live in, and are adopting new technologies into their classrooms. The advancement in computers, particularly the internet, has made some improvements on the quality of education in America.

The new technology has decreased the amount of pressure teachers have endured for so long. It also has allowed students to have access to a larger database filled with essential information, enabling them to learn more than generations pasts could have ever conceived. However, with new technology, comes with new problems. Most educational software and computers are expensive, and schools simply do not have enough financial support to supply the computer labs with brand new computers. In order to make use out of the software, the computers must be able to link together, so that all students are able to connect and learn at the same time. At the present time, the computers are only designed for one-on-one.

Television has a similar story. Instead of contemplating on how to incorporate more technology and computers into the classroom, the television has made it easier for teachers to bring important information to all students at the same time.

Essays / Environment of the world-20 years after / Future - topic idea [3]

This question is essentially saying, based on past and current world conflicts, future violence is inevitable. You simply have to write a persuasive essay on your ideologies of the past, after World War II, and our future, the outcome of it. I conducted extensive research on this subject, which you might have to do yourself for accurate dates and facts. It is too bad that this essay is limited to 500 words, because there is so much to write about.

Scholarship / Influx of foreign-born workers are a solution for labor shortage; Scholarship Essay [5]

I am still overlooking my essay, but here's what I have written so far. Could someoen help me edit this? THanks!

The idea of a labor shortage occurring in North America is a false statement, and I disagree with the fact that foreign-born workers will be helpful in years to come. Many American's are idly sitting around contemplating whether or not if immigrants are helpful to our society. They consider Mexican immigrants a burden to our economy, health care system, and job security. They also want us to believe that our economy will experience a labor shortage in the next 5 to 10 years. This is both misleading and a myth. Its an belief that is enriched by the mainstream media and by the political elites to gain the attention by the feeble minded American's. No surprise there, since politician's will try anything to gain attention. You can see this in the immigration debate.

So what's the real story? The labor shortage lie, of course. The truth is that there is no such thing as a labor shortage, it's simply cheap labor. This is why many American companies hire immigrants, especially Mexican immigrants, they are more impressionable. Many politicians here in America, including John McCain claims that Americans just don't want to do certain jobs immigrants are willing to do. The big reason why you see more immigrants working on farms is because they are being paid pennies. This is both unfair to Americans and to immigrants who work hard to help prosper American companies.

Another argument suggests that by 2015, one fifth of the workers will be over 55 leaving a huge gap which the new generation will be unable to fill in those jobs. But this kind of argument has its flaws. First, the new generation is becoming more advanced, more skilled, and working longer than the baby boomer generation. Today, the retirement age of the new generation is 62, not 55. As American's become more health conscious, the new generation will live past 77 years. So what is happening with the labor shortage? That's just one problem: It isn't happening. It's simply a myth being kept alive by those who blithely blame immigrants for the myriad of problems in our country.

Even if America experiences labor shortage in the near future, it is feasible that we will bounce back like before. Here's a suggestion: If American companies want to continue to thrive in the global business world, then they must invest in native born citizens and the technology to keep their companies going. They need to change their tactics on how they conduct their business. They need to see that slavery was abolished hundreds of years ago, and stop paying immigrants slave wages. Whatever happened to our laws? Our human rights? I guess all that matters to an American business owner is how much he can save.

Scholarship / Influx of foreign-born workers are a solution for labor shortage; Scholarship Essay [5]

I am writting an essay for a scholarship, but I am stuck. I was wondering if anyone could help me edit this essay? If you disagree, what other facts should I add?

Thanks!

Many experts believe an influx of foreign-born workers will be an effective solution to a future labor shortage, when "baby boomers" reach the age of retirement. Either agree or disagree with this statement and explain your rationale.

------------------------------------------------------------ -----------

My responce:

America's economy is struggling with the help of two major players. One is the surge of foreign-born workers in America, and two, the aging baby boomers. In response to this essay, I firmly believe that America will not benefit from foreign-born workers, it will only make matters worse. For example, if the illegal immigrants come to our country at the same rate as they are now, our economy and political backgrounds will be tremendously effected. The impact of foreign-born workers are beginning to affect this nation as we speak. The high price of health care and education are taking a toll on Americans. It is causing the normal American family to compete with foreign-born workers for the basic necessities they need to survive.

Much has been written about the increase of illegal immigrants and foreign-born workers in America. Yet, no one seems to realize the impact they have on our society. They not only have a great impact on our economy and education, but our social security, Medicare, and Medicaid as well. Our language is also having an effect on America.

Scholarship / The world will get more riddled with war - scholarship essay [6]

I am working on a scholarship essay that has to be at least 500 words. However, at this point, my mind is blank, and I cannot come up with any more words to add to it. Can anyone give me suggestions?

Here's the question

Many experts believe that the world will continue to get more riddled with war and violence over the course of the next ten years. Either agree or disagree with this statement and explain your rationale.

My essay:

The circle of violence has fathered our lifestyles. The world has suffered so much under numerous rulers. In Iraq, different religious groups have been fighting over religious ideologies for decades. The people of Iraq were voiceless, because of the dictator who once ruled the country. And now, they remain voiceless because of the terrorists who terrorize their lives daily. Consequently, thousands of woman and children are caught between the rings of fire burning in their country. However, I truly believe that the key reason why there is so much violence in the world is because of the poverty level in undeveloped nations, such as Iraq, Columbia, and Kosovo.

Consequently, woman and children are forced to live in unsanitary living conditions, where there is no food or clean water. Terrorist group's, such as Al-Qaeda, bread in war constricted countries, and as a result, they bribe small children who are desperate for shelter or food with money to carry out their cowardly attacks.
