Letters / Fraternity Interest Letter [6]

I think your letter is very good. The only thing I could think to add to it is maybe to write a bit of what you feel the Fraternity could offer you, maybe to highlight the direction you would like to take in your career or have taken and what your short-term life long goals are.

Writing Feedback / Essay on advantages of computer games [16]

To make your essay a bit stronger in view point you could list a few well known negative views found quite often in the media and perhaps counter it with a positive view point.

For example, "It is widely remarked that playing computer games encourages people to be lazy and is turning us into a nation of couch potato's. However this is no longer the case as we have gaming consoles such as the Nintendo Wii which encourage social activity and promote general exercise."

Essays / I need help understanding Illustration essays. [11]

I personally love reading fantasy books like the Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind because of the way he set's the scene, the way in which he describes his character's.

With a small amount of imagination one of those character's could be standing next to you in the room. I guess the point of an illustration essay is to make the words on the page come alive to the reader. Perhaps pretend you are describing your favourite show to someone who is blind, you don't want them to miss anything and you don't really want to give them too much info that overwhelm them. So you describe the crucial and best bits in detail.

Like opening that present - you don't need to open it all the way to see what it is... but you can look at the shape, shake it and maybe open one corner. I was told when describing something remember to use all your sense's, sight, touch, smell etc.

As for some examples - what do you like doing that you could share with other people?

Hope that helps

Essays / Essay on Early Years Social Policy [4]

Hey All

Me again :) This term's module is Social Policy within Early Years and I have thoroughly enjoyed the content. I have an academic essay due in on the 24th June which as it's half term I thought I would make a start with it. I have done loads of reading but am stuck for a starting point for the essay.

The essay is: With reference to historical changes, explain how and why services for children and families have developed to the present day.

data.bolton.ac.uk/academicaffairs/viewmodulestyle.asp ?code=EYC1005

Been looking forward to this as I found the lesson content really grabbed my attention, however now that I have sat down to start it I am stuck... this usually happens to me!

I decided to go back to the Children's Act of 1989 and compare it to the current Children's Act 2004 and the Every Child Matter's framework as I was worried that if I went back to Post Industrial or Post William Beveridge that with only 2500 words I would quickly eat up my word count.

My essay needs to look at historical legislation, including social reform and the making of social policy. Analyse the impact of change in legislation and link to current UK legislation.

Hoping someone could point me in a direction or give me a few idea's to start the essay with - be much appreciated. As soon as I get a direction I normally have no problems lol

Thanks
Mel

Essays / Raising a teenage boy vs teenage girl - writing a comparision and contrast essay [5]

You could even perhaps ask parents who have both a son and daughter about their experiences raising them and what difficulties they had with each, and if you wanted a different angle on it you could then interview the son/daughter and get their replies to the parent's comments.

Just becareful when you do it :)

Essays / Is father or mother who play the more important role in building up the children [8]

If you wanted some theories to bulk your essay out a little perhaps look at John Bowlby's Attchement theory which looked at whether children could have a strong attachment to a regular caregiver or whether this bond was primary formed with the child's mother.

Hope that helps

Essays / Facilitating Children's Learning [11]

Hey all

I am part way through my first year in a foundation degree in early years. I feel like have struggled through the first two modules, Developing Child and ICT and now hit a huge blank wall with the third module - Facilitating Children's Learning. Hoping you can provide me with some inspiration!

We have to do a presentation on the above subject and back it with e reflective essay. data.bolton.ac.uk/academicaffairs/viewmodulestyle.asp?code=EYC1003

I have to find a resource that I can use in three different activities and that could be innvative to the 3/4 years I work with. This is where I am stuck, I have found loads of info from books/journals etc on how to plan things but seem to be stuck on the innvative resource itself.

I can think of lots of creative fun things to do but sadly I seem to be lacking in coming up with new ideas - think my poor brain is slightly frazzed out.

Hoping you can point me in a direction where I can get the creative juices flowing again!
Thanks
Mel
