Writing Feedback / IELTS: 'optimum utilization of available resources' - Inequality between rich and poor nations [5]

The inequality between rich and poor nations is now wider than it has ever been before. What do you think are the main causes of this difference and what so you think can be done to reduce the gap?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

We have developed, developing and under-developed nations on this earth and now-a days the imparity between the rich and the poor nations is alarmingly high. The rift between the rich and the poor is expanding. The rich become richer and the poor become poorer is a cry heard throughout the whole civilized world.

In my opinion, the poor nations are to a large extent responsible for the increasing disparity between the rich and the poor nations. According to John F Kennedy, ' Things do not happen, things are made to happen.' People yearn for better standards of living in under-developed and developing nations but, lack of public awareness and poor quality of governance in these nations, are somehow the root cause for such disparity. A country with corrupt leaders cannot prosper. Economic growth requires transparent and accountable governance. We need to keep a check on other factors that, in some or the other way effect the economic growth and hinder the process of development. Corruption, increasing number of crimes, continuous inflation, unemployment, brain drain, lack of education, depreciation in the value of currency due to increasing ratio of imports versus exports and increasing population are a few hurdles in the path of economic growth. The composition of population also plays a crucial role in a nations growth and development. A country with more number of elderly people and younger children is ought to prosper less as compared to a country with population comprising of youth, largely.

Every nation has limited resources but it depends upon the leaders as well as the residents of the country as to, how to make an optimum utilization of available resources. Technological advancement is just one of the reasons for economic growth. Over-populated nations usually run out of resources and hence have to look forward for aid from the developed nations. The debt keeps on increasing and so does the interest which results in depreciation of nation's currency. More debts, more interest, over population, corruption, less development and the vicious circle never ends. Natural calamities might be a reason for slow economic growth in a particular region but if the government takes necessary steps and the public is passionate about its nation, things would be different.

according to me, promoting local brands and tourism industry to attract foreign currency, providing incentives on exports, imposing taxes on imports, controlling population by creating general awareness among the people, finding ways to increase employment, choosing the right government , working out strong strategies to deal with recession and also, formulation and strict implementation of necessary laws might be a few possible steps that can be taken, not only to put a halt to the increasing inequality but instead reduce the gap between the rich and poor nations.

Writing Feedback / IELTS Writing Task 1: Graphs ; Actual number of houses constructed in UK 2002 [3]

The table describes the actual number of houses constructed against the estimated values, in various regions of England in 2002.
Maximum houses were built in Southern England (excluding London) and the recorded figure was 77,500 , which was around 25% more than the estimated figures for the region. In London only 24,800 houses were estimated to be built, however the actual houses built were almost 50% more than the projected figure. In Central England and Northern Ireland, twice the number of estimated houses were actually built. The estimated and the actual figures for Central Ireland were 8,100 and 16,200 respectively, while for Northern England the figures were 2,500 and 5,000 respectively. In Northern England 13,500 houses were constructed against the estimated figure of 9,300. A little more than 50% houses (estimated) were actually built in Wales. Scotland was the only region in England where the actual number of houses built were 3,000, which was less than the estimated figure of 3,200.

To conclude, Southern England had the maximum house constructed while Scotland had the least.

Writing Feedback / 'Rabindranath Tagore'; Children should be educated at home by their parents [3]

Education, as we all know, is an integral part of our lives. Various countries have their own education systems and ways of teaching a child might differ. Children might go to educational institutions or might opt for home schooling. I personally don't favor the idea of home schooling.

Rabindranath Tagore once said,'Don't limit a child to your learning, for he was born in another time'. A child in his childhood, spends most of the time at school, where he learns a lot more than just his academic lessons. For instance, he learns sharing, making friends, co-operating with his peers, obeying, working as a group, taking up challenges, judging people, taking decisions, managing his time, managing money too. Until he is given a chance to involve himself in a multi-cultural environment, he might not be able to respect every culture and religion. A child might go on a trip and learn various things which he might not be able to learn staying at home. He will definitely not get a chance to perform various scientific experiments at home, which he for sure will have to take part in schools and colleges. He might be able to get bookish knowledge but in real world we need a lot more than just some factual information about various subjects.

Some people might argue that its safer for a child to study at home, but then, one day he has to step out and find out what the real world is like. He might not be able to tackle situations, mix up with people and thus, might lose confidence. Parents might also be able to provide them with the best faculty or teach them on their own but then, he would miss upon the knowledge, other students might obtain due to group discussions. He won't be able to take part in various competitions and might not be able to compare his abilities and hence improvise. He might follow the religion, his parents guide him to but, he might not be able to chose a path on his own. Every person has a limited knowledge and whatever a parent knows, he might be able to teach his child but the child will be negligent of other knowledgeable things and new developments around and of-course, the child will not be able to explore but become dependent on his parents.

I strongly believe that children should be sent to schools and colleges. 'Education is not preparation of life, it is life itself'. Parents should not keep their children at home, thinking they are safe indoors but instead, should send them to an educational institution whereby, they can develop various characteristics and enhance their knowledge by sharing.
