Undergraduate / Leadership is one of those qualities that everyone possesses - UGA: Admissions Philosophy Statement [NEW]

The UGA faculty has determined that the student body should demonstrate the qualities listed in the Admissions Philosophy Statement. After reviewing this, help us understand which of your qualities will add value to our community of scholars. Word limit is 500.

Leadership is one of those qualities that everyone possesses; however, some people choose not to utilize it. Being a leader is one of the most essential characteristics that a person can have. I believe that it is very important to be a leader. You have people looking up to you, so you have to be trustworthy, responsible, and dependabl. Leaders make good decisions and set examples for others by thinking for themselves. I believe that I have demonstrate all of these qualities through my position as co-captain of my school's varsity swim team and also through my involvement with my school's many clubs and organizations. Work ethic is another quality that everyone has in them; however, it is up to the individual to make the most of it. Since I can remember, I have always strived to do my best in everything that I did, from school to sports. Work ethic has always been a trait that I have capitalized on, whether it was working to be the first person in my family to attend college or working to come in first place in my swim meet. I am also immensely determined to be successful in my career, which would allow me to contribute to the UGA community with my prospective academic success. I look forward to being an active member in the UGA community and these traits would help me do so. I would not only be able to contribute in the classroom, but also around the UGA campus as well. I believe these qualities are imperative to have throughout any college experience because they are vital to being successful.

Undergraduate / I had been presented with the opportunity to go on a church camping trip. UGA essay [5]

Tell us an interesting or amusing story about yourself that you have not already shared in your application. (150-200 words)

I had been presented with the opportunity to go on a church camping trip. In a moment of haste, I agreed to go on the camping trip. As the trip began to approach, I regretted my decision. Expecting the worst, I began to formulate excuses to weasel my way out of the predicament. However, I began thinking; I should make glorious and rich memories that I can carry with me until the day I die while I still could. I decided to go on the camping trip. The fellow church mates that also went on the camping trip were strangers to me, but strangely enough, I found myself engaging in conversation with them. We talked about miscellaneous topics and cracked jokes as if we've known each other for years. Opportunities should not be given up on such miniscule things such as embarrassment. Life should be spent discovering new opportunities. Being close-minded and introverted restricted my way of living, so I have discarded those characteristics.
