"Your perfect Monday morning?" Personal Statement Hospitality College [3]
I would like to apply for the hospitality undergraduate programme within your faculty because I am very passionate about this industry and I hope to contribute with my future knowledge to the development and improvement of this branch of economy. It is very important for me to learn from the experts how to improve my communication, creativity and leadership skills and how to be a part of the world of hospitality services.
The desire to study hospitality flourished in my mind following a workshop held in the first year of high school named "What do you want to be when you grow up?". On a blank page, I had to discover myself. One question: "Your perfect Monday morning?". There it was, I saw myself. With a warm smile on my face, sitting at the front desk of my cozy hotel. There is where I want to be every Monday of my life.
From that moment, I wanted to know more about this industry. I began reading magazines and watching T.V. shows about hospitality, hotels, real estate and travels. "Hotel Impossible" created by the hospitality expert Anthony Melchiorri is the perfect example. Watching this I have learned that hospitality is a rapidly changing and growing industry, and you always have to be up to date with the latest innovations and improvements regarding hotel management.
In high school I took part in extracurricular activities from a diverse spectrum. For the competition "Innovation Days" organized by Junior Achievement I had to create from scratch two fictional companies. The first one was about helping a distressed community to increase their revenues. This is something that I am sure I will learn more about in your Strategy Development course. For the second stage of the competition I have created a company called "Rent a Friend", a company whose dedicated internet page allows different people to find and connect with a person who shares the same hobbies and ideas. "Rent a Friend" also has a professional subsidiary called "Rent a Pro" dedicated to companies searching for an available, on the spot freelancer. Also, last summer, I participated in voluntary work involving the "Copacelul" orphanage from the city of Ramnicu Valcea. There, I engaged the abandoned children in different activities like math, drawing, music and English. I have to tell you, their smiling faces and warmth are still vivid in my mind. In addition, following a selection made by one of my dearest and important teachers, I went to The National Photography Competition with photos that I took as a hobby and I won different prizes.
All of these made me realize that I am a competitive person as well as a good team player. I love new challenges and I like to be involved in projects with deadlines.
Furthermore, I like to learn new languages, I am polite and outgoing, I communicate well with people. I learned to listen to the opinions and advice of the persons around me and to apply them to my work, thing that I believe is very important to keep in mind while you take the first steps in this industry. I believe that my personality and desire to see, learn and know as many things as I can is the keystone in my development not only as a student, but as a person, in your faculty.
Granted, I believe that these qualities, that I have acquired both in school and from my family, will help me evolve in this exciting industry that is hospitality and to overleap any hard moments I may encounter during courses or internships.
I want to use the experience and knowledge gained in these years of studying to get involved in the hospitality industry anywhere in the world.
Considering all the above, I would like to thank you for taking your time to read my personal statement. For me, to be accepted as a student of your school will be a dream come true and I believe that your guidance can light the path that I have chosen in my life.
