Struggling with/unsure about research paper based on social anxiety/phobia

Hello.

I am interested in using social phobia/anxiety as the main focus of my paper, but I am completely clueless as to what my research question and hypothesis should be.

I was thinking about focusing on the negative (or positive?) effects online social networking (or the internet in general?) has on social anxiety. I was told this might be an interesting topic but it lacked refinement. That is what I am struggling with - to refine it, and I am also beginning to kind of have seconds thoughts about this topic as a whole because I am having a hard time finding suitable material to use.

I don't know what else I can write about, and I am running out of time (I have a midterm presentation coming up)!

Here is the description of the final paper:

1,800 - 2,500 words, not including the works cited page.
Approximately eight to ten pages typed.
Double spaced.
One-inch margins all around.
A minimum of eight sources must be cited, a minimum of six being books and scholarly articles.

I would greatly appreciate your help.

Just quickly throwing some stuff out there:

1. Social media replaces physical social interaction (negative)
2. Social media fosters the ability to create multiple friendships (such as having 500 friends) and anxiety occurs from attempting to maintain so many "friendships"

I like the topic - think it has great potential.
